The paper elaborates the typology of Belgrade interpolations accomplished in the period from 1865 to 2010. Conceptually demanding and creativelly challenging, they are the most frequent method of completing the city tissue. By interpreting the principles of this sensitive professional discipline which implies a defined relation between a new object and the existing surroundings, designers mostly combined pre-designed and authorial solutions. Despite the widespread occurrence and civilizational importance, interpolations have not been studies in great detail in scientific historiography.
