Временски ковитлац. Нова интерпретација програма грачаничког католикона

Abstract

У раду је изложена могућност сагледавања целокупног програма католикона манастира Грачанице као јединствене целине. Полазећи од чињенице да западни зид припрате илуструје крај времена, док је сликарство олтарског простора и највиших тачака цркве визуализовало ванвремену реалност (литургијско време), програм наоса и источног дела припрате интерпретиран је као одмотавање хронолошког ковитлаца свете историје – од догађаја из Христовог живота до набрајања подвига његових следбеника (менолошке сцене). Унутар такве замисисли династија Немањића добила је посебно место будући да портрети њених припадника представљају карику између хришћанске прошлости и приповести о будућем крају (историјску садашњост). Наведена интерпретација почива на просторној контекстуализацији сусрета верника са живописом цркве приликом примања евхаристије.

The aim of this paper is to show that the pictorial program of the Gračanica katholikon was envisioned as a unified whole. While the west wall of the narthex illustrates the Last Judgment (the end of time) and frescoes of the altar space and those in the five domes visualize the reality beyond the realm of time, it is argued that program in the naos together with the eastern part of the narthex represents chronological unwinding of the holy history – it recounts the events from Christ’s life to the renowned labors of his saints (the Menologion scenes). The members of the Nemanjić dynasty acquired a special place in this conception because their portraits are positioned as a link that connects the sacred past and the inevitable future. The historical present was reserved for King Milutin in a liminal space beneath the arch as a God-Chosen ruler, receiving his royal dignity directly from heaven. He is shown as the leader of his people down the road of salvation. The delivered interpretation is based on the contextualized encounter between the faithful and the pictorial program during the liturgy. After receiving the communion, a person would have been able to “experience” the passage of time by perceiving the careful staging of the frescoes on the way back to the previous position in the church. That route inevitably led through the space of the narthex.
