Јован Бугарски и Карта Књажевства Србије

Abstract

У раду ће бити приказан живот и дело Јована Бугарског, једног од првих српских картографа. Први део рада посвећен је приказу неких до саданепознатих делова биографије Јована Бугарског када је био у служби Србије. У другом делу рада приказан је настанак Карте Књажевства Србије, која је дело Јована Бугарског, а потом је извршена анализа тачности те карте у погледу орографије, хидрографије, убикације насеља и других физичко-географских елемената. Последњи део рада посвећен је утицају који је та карта остварила у научним круговима из тог периода.

This paper deals with the life of Jovan Bugarski, one of the first Serbian cartographers, as well as his Map of the Principality of Serbia, published in 1845. The map is published in three variants, two in Serbian and one in French. The Serbian and French variants of the map contain dedications to Prince Mihailo Obrenovic, while the second Serbian version has no dedication. The Serbian version is without a doubt the first geographical map printed in the Principality of Serbia, which gives it additional importance. This map, despite its shortcomings and mistakes in hydrography, orography and location of settlements, is an important segment in the spread of geographical knowledge about Serbia, which was at a low level. Thanks to this map, Serbs finally, at the end of the first half of the 19th century, had a map printed in the Serbian language and could become familiar with the geographical appearance of their country.
