Дарвинизам и борба за опстанак Antropoides Франтишека Купке

Abstract

Слика Antropoides Франтишека Купке настала је у Француској, 1902. године и била је део веће фасцинације природном историјом на раз- ноликој уметничкој сцени Европе. Рад приказује два антропоидна примата у конкурентској борби око женке. Културна и научна клима у којој је уобли- чено дело, била је потцртана еволуционистичким теоријама и потрагом за човековом прошлошћу. Концепт дарвинизма у визуелној култури 19. века био је исказиван различитим мотивима у сликарству, иницираним теори- јом еволуције Чарлса Дарвина, током друге половине века, у свим великим европским центрима. Француски културни круг био је погодно тло за истра- живање феномена борбе за опстанак и полног одабирања, као два основна принципа еволуције цивилизације. Визуелизацијом тих принципа, Купка је као централни мотив истакао човека и жену, посредно преко њихових пра- историјских, животињских предака, дефинисане физичким, природним би- ћем и обузетим ограниченом свесном вољом, што се огледа у погледу теле- сних нагона. Та правила у економији природе постала су изузетно популарна у волунтаристичкој филозофији Артура Шопенхауера, психологији и визу- елној култури, а такође представљају основне идеје слике Antropoides. Циљ овог рада јесте одређивање места поменутог дела у социјалном, идејном и филозофском контексту fin de siècle.

František Kupka’s work ‘Antropoides’ was created in the midst of the diverse 19th century art scene in France, where the concept of Darwinism was increasingly gaining in relevance. A specific visual culture was formed which responded to Darwin’s theory of evolution and the scientific debates it initiated. Darwin not only provided scientific evidence of man’s animal origins; he undermined beliefs concerning identity, free will, and a teleological universe. Kupka’s attitude towards the theory of evolution was part of a larger fascination with natural history, and he himself expressed the opinion that life is driven by impersonal motivating forces, represented in the power of nature. For his elaboration of the concept of Darwinism there were two basic significant principles of human evolution – the struggle for survival and sexual selection, which Kupka expressed in his painting. He stated his personal affirmation of the theory of evolution by painting the human anthropoid ancestors, who are in their essence driven by the same forces of nature as modern man is. Hominids in the work ‘Antropoides’ are overwhelmed by the deepest inner impulses shared by humans and animals, and these are passion and pugnacity, as blinding instincts that drive beings into action. These instincts, which were elaborated by the German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer, represent the most powerful confirmation of life. Their ultimate goal is to provide the next generation that will evolve further by the same principles. Thereby, Kupka indicated the main message of his painting, and that is the certain progression of civilisation. Finally, the work expresses his anarchist conviction that if the modern world could free itself from the anti - life forces of capitalism, a society in harmony with nature could emerge. This progress, providing social improvement, is possible only by the survival of the fittest individuals who live in accordance with natural laws and are in harmony with them. With its universal idea, the work ‘Antropoides’ invites mankind to return to the true, primaeval values that are reflected in nature’s rules of functioning.
