Један покушај приступа проблему античког грчког идентитета: парадигма Сократ

Abstract

Питање античког грчког националног идентитета веома је комплексно. Оно што знамо јесте да је линија раздеобе начињена на културној равни, тј. на равни језика: Ἕλλην ἑλληνίζει, док варвари говоре βαρβαριστί. Мало шта, међутим, осим тога знамо. Нема, наиме, консенз уса када се код Хелена јавља свест о уједињеном свегрчком јединству – да ли тек са Александром Великим или раније, са колонизацијoм Црног мора у VII (VIIΙ?) веку п.н.е, или пак још раније, и о којој врсти свести се радило. С обзиром да је појам нације знатно познији појам, сваки покушај говора о античком грчком јединству као националном јединству у извесном смислу је анахрон. На другој страни, постојала је јасна свест код Хелена о припадности полису и њихов идентитет јесте у битној спрези са идентитетом полиса, али није тиме исцрпљен. Иако никаквог сопства у модерном смислу није могло бити, не значи да није било ничега независно од осећања припадности полису. Приступајући овом проблему на парадигматичном примеру Сократа, покушаћу да истражим у чему се састојао идентитет ,,најмудријег од свих Хелена”. У том смислу, заступам хипотезу да се Сократов идентитет битно и равноправно конституише око три главна стожера: закони Атинске државе, тзв. δαιμόνιον и – филозофија.

The question of the ancient Greek national identity is a very tricky one. It is certain that the distinctive feature of the Greek identity is delineated in the realm of culture, more specifically, in the realm of language: whereas the non-Greeks βαρβαρίζουσιν, the Ἕλληνες ἑλληνίζουσιν. Unfortunately, anything more than this can hardly be said with the same certainity, particularly when it comes to what one may call the pan-Hellenic national identity. At what moment in time did the ancient Greeks start to consider themselves the members of a broader Hellenic community? Was it with Alexander the Great, or with the colonizations that took place during the 7th (8th?) century BC, or perhaps even earlier? What is more, given that the notion of nation is a modern one, it is very unreliable, if not anachronistic, to talk about the ancient Greek identity as a “national” one. Nevertheless, one thing is known for certain: Every ancient Greek had a strong sentiment of pertaining to his polis. However, this is only the beginning, not the end of the story. The modern notion of self, of course, could not have existed, but that is not to say that the Greeks did not have any understending of self apart from the polis (as often thought in history of science and philosophy). My aim is to tackle this issue addressing the problem of Socrates's identity, as a case study. My hypothesis is that the identity of “the wisest of all the Greeks” is essentially constituted on and distributed among the three pivotal points: the first being the laws of Atenian state, the second being the so-called δαιμόνιον, and the last, but not the least being – philosophy.
