AB - Although NSSI has been drawing the attention of researchers intensely for the last 30 years, to date there is no published study about rates of NSSI behaviors in countries of south-eastern Europe. The study aimed to explore NSSI in the Republic of Serbia. Data were collected using multistage random sampling. The final sample consisted of 2792 participants (57.4% female) while the NSSI subsample consisted of 405 participants (54.3% males). Results showed the NSSI rate in Serbia is 4.3% based on a percentage of people who answered affirmatively to lifetime NSSI engagement. However, when the percentage of people who reported at least one positive answer through the NSSI behaviors checklist, the rate rises to 14.5%. The most frequent NSSI behavior is wound picking. NSSI rate drops to 8.8% when wound picking is excluded. Those engaged in NSSI were more likely to report suicide attempts and seek professional help than those who did not report NSSI. Gender differences in NSSI frequency are found only in cases of headbanging and burning oneself. This study showed the scope of NSSI-related problems is similar in Serbia compared to other countries. It also raised questions about the lack of preventive programs and treatment strategies for dealing with NSSI in Serbia.

AB - Are referendum campaigns involving issues about sovereignty more likely to succeed if framed in a positive rather than a negative way? We ran a survey on a hypothetical referendum on a peace agreement between Serbia and Kosovo to answer this question, and we experimentally simulated both positive and negative frames. We found that the positive campaign frame, i.e. one that contains an invitation to support a lasting peace in the Balkans, economic prosperity, Serbia’s path to EU integration, and the protection of the Serbian population and cultural heritage in Kosovo, is more appealing than the negative one, which focuses on avoiding the risk of failure. Our finding contradicts previous works that relied on the prospect theory to argue that negatively framed messages can attract more attention because people try to avoid adverse outcomes. To explain our findings, we argue that positive referendum campaigns are more effective than negative ones when the reference point is low due to attributive framing.

AB - The aim of our study was to investigate whether the experience of objects' implicit features would change if we observe it as a real 3D object or as a photograph or a drawing. In our experiment 46 participants estimated their impression of 10 objects shown in four different presentations. As stimuli, we used 3D objects, their virtual reality models, photographs and drawings from four different viewing directions, created by architecture students. As a measure of implicit features experience we used 12 bipolar adjectives grouped into four factors (attractiveness, regularity, arousal, and calmness) and 3 adjectives forming aesthetic experience factor. Results show significant differences between types of object presentations on four factors of implicit features experience, but not on the aesthetic experience factor. Real 3D objects were experienced as more attractive and calm, while VR presentation showed reduced arousal than other presentation types. On regularity VR and real 3D objects were experienced as same and more regular then drawings and photographs.

AB - Negative trends in land use and land cover changes (LULCCs) are embodied in environmental, economic and social problems, keeping entire societies away from sustainable development goals (SDGs). This recognition incites a need for securing comprehensive and transdiciplinary knowledge on the complex interplay between LULCCs and their drivers. It should inform land use policy makers and produce adequate sustainable social responses. However, fragmentation in both academic and governmental arenas is an important impediment to the needed application of sustainability to land use policy. With this regard, the study offers a transdisciplinary, bottom-up and reproducible framework for understanding key drivers of LULCCs at the national/regional level where sustainable land use policies should be defined. Its main component is the repeated measure ANOVA of the experts' survey data. The analysis allows aggregation of experts' different disciplinary, professional and experiential perceptions and produces comparable results. It is tested in Serbia in three sub-periods during post-socialism. Main results confirm that LULCCs and drivers are complexly intertwined and need to be analysed within a comprehensive and transdisciplinary framework. Furthermore, the study should enable the transdisciplinary discussion, learning and knowledge coproduction that are required to inform land use policy makers about the needed trans-sectoral coproduction of policy responses towards SDGs.

AB - Aim: This article aims to make clearer, with supporting evidence, the clinical benefits of the nature-based rehabilitation program (NBRP) and the restorative values of visiting botanical garden for people with stress-related mental disorders. Background: Throughout the years, nature-based therapy has been acknowledged as a valuable rehabilitation practice that integrates specially designed natural environments and nature-related activities for people with mental health conditions. Subject and Methods: The comparative analyses of parallel conducted the NBRP at botanical garden and occupational therapy realised at the Day Hospital of the Institute of Mental Health in Belgrade included 27 participants divided into two groups. The data collection employed a mixed method combining a Clinical Global Impression (CGI) Scale and on-site observations. Results: The positive findings on the psychological recovery of the participants seem to be related to NBRP. The restorative potential of the garden was recognized through the observed interaction between participants and the natural entities employed through the various themed activities. The observed landscape elements especially solitary plant specimens or tall and single-form trees within the garden can be embraced as design guidelines for the development of an evidence-based practice that can support the recovery process of people with mental health conditions. Conclusion: Our findings endorse that ongoing social development and progressive urbanization have broadened the interest in scientific research involving nature-based solutions that help preserve the physical and mental health of people in low- and middle-income Western Balkan countries with a high prevalence of mental disorders in the urban environment that relates to social inequalities and natural disasters.

AB - Theoretical and empirical insight notes that cyber security awareness is a topic of particular interest in cyber security. Humans are the central figures in cyber security and the way to reduce risk in cyberspace is to make people more security aware. While there have been numerous studies about various aspects of cyber security awareness, they are both inconsistent and environment-dependent. The main aim of our research is to analyze cyber security awareness in depth, and to try to discover how various factors such as socio-demographics, cyber security perceptions, previous cyber security breaches, IT usage, and knowledge may individually or together impact on cyber security behavior. To prove that we conducted our research on students, as they are the most technologically active part of the society. We discovered that knowledge proved to be the dominant factor for cyber security awareness, and although students are digital natives, they do not feel safe in the cyber environment; they do not behave securely and do not have adequate knowledge to protect themselves in cyberspace.

AB - Results of previous studies point to the importance of different face parts for certain emotion recognition, and also show that emotions are better recognized in photographs than in caricatures of faces. Therefore, the aim of the study was to examine the accuracy of recognizing facial expression of emotions in relation to the type of emotion and the type of visual presentations. Stimuli contained facial expressions, shown as a photograph, face drawing, or as an emoticon. The task for the participant was to click on the emotion he thought was shown on the stimulus. As factors, the type of displayed emotion varied (happiness, sorrow, surprise, anger, disgust, fear), as well as the type of visual presentation (photo of a human face, a drawing of a human face and an emoticon). As the dependent variable, we used the number of accurately recognized facial expressions in all 18 situations. The results showed that there is an interaction of the type of emotion being evaluated and the type of visual presentation, F(10; 290) = 10.55, p lt .01, eta(2) =.27. The facial expression of fear was most accurately assessed in the drawing of the human face. Emotion of sorrow was most accurately recognized in the assessment of emoticon, and the expression of disgust was recognized worst on the emoticon. Other expressions of emotions were equally well assessed independently of the type of visual presentation. The type of visual presentation has proven to be important for recognizing some emoticons, but not for all of them.

AB - The aim of present study was to explore relationships between experienced and anticipated discrimination, internalized stigma, and empowerment among people with physical disabilities in Serbia. The convenience sample consisted of persons with different types of physical disabilities. The following scales were administrated: The Discrimination and Stigma Scale, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale, and the Boston University Empowerment Scale. An analysis showed that internalized stigma was correlated with experienced and anticipated discrimination and empowerment, while no correlation was found between empowerment and discrimination. People with physical disabilities who experienced and anticipated discrimination are at higher risk of reporting internalized stigma.

AB - Urban Green Infrastructure (UGI) serves both inhabitants' and visitors' numerous and various needs. This research aimed to enhance knowledge regarding the role of UGI in urban tourism. The research questions addressed tourists' perceptions of UGI, their understanding and uses of UGI, and the ways that this understanding influenced their travel choice to specific urban destinations. A cross-cultural comparative study among urban tourists was carried out in eight European countries. The selection of case studies followed a roughly comparative logic, employing the same on-site questionnaire survey administered in a sample of large and medium size cities in Southern European, Central European and Northern European countries. Looking from the perspective of the tourists' countries of origin, our findings validate a well-established trend in international tourism, namely the fact that neighbouring countries tend to be the most significant tourist markets of an urban destination. The other major finding confirmed the most well-known tourist movement patterns of Northern and Central Europeans travelling to the Mediterranean for tourism purposes. While the study revealed that the majority of the tourists interviewed were not very familiar with the term 'Green Infrastructure', nor with specific UGI features offered in the visited cities, the importance of UGI was acknowledged and viewed in a mostly very positive light. The majority of respondents enjoyed visiting UGI and used it for some light physical activity or for purposes of relaxation, socialization, and in order to explore the culture and society of the destination city. The fact that most UGI in the case study cities is located around or within a short distance from important heritage sites provided UGI with an indirect possibility of being included in the tourists' visiting plans. In conclusion, the results of this study may prove to be very helpful to local and regional authorities in considering how to plan, manage and promote an urban tourism destination's green infrastructure as part of the tourism offer.

AB - Dropout in higher education attracts great attention due to serious effects on an individual and on society. This is an exploratory study aimed at: analysing dropout measurement and tracking in the Serbian higher education, reviewing studies on dropout causes, and identifying available services and prevention measures. Various techniques are used to achieve these goals (statistics analysis, literature review, qualitative content analysis). Our results show that: 1. There are no accepted dropout definitions nor official statistics, but some rate estimate could be given; 2. Research is not systematic, but covers three major dropout factors (individual, socio-demo-graphic, studying conditions); 3. Services are sporadic and not visible enough; 4. Legislation reveals state interest in promoting higher education, but implemented measures are not adequate enough. We see establishment of the Unified Education Information System as an important step in precise dropout measurement. There is a need for flexible studying routes and increased financial support orientated more towards vulnerable student groups. International studies highlight the importance of intensification of teacher-student and peer interaction built in modern student-centred teaching practice. At the end, we advocate creating a new educational policy by combining two major frameworks in this field and relying on inclusive research.

AB - Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of epilepsy and subclinical epileptiform abnormalities in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and to investigate its effects on core autistic symptoms and adaptive behavior skills. Methods: Patients with diagnosis of ASD who met full criteria on Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) were included in the study. Adaptive behavior skills were assessed by Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale-II (VABS-II). Clinical assessment for epilepsy and video electroencephalography (EEG) (v-EEG) examinations during wakefulness and/or sleep were prospectively performed in all patients. Results: A total of 112 patients with diagnosis of ASD of mean age 6.58 +/- 3.72 were included in the study. Based on clinical and v-EEG assessments, three groups of patients were defined: 1) patients with epilepsy (n = 17; 15.2%); 2) patients with epileptiform discharges in absence of clinical seizures (n = 14; 12.5%); 3) patients without epilepsy and without epileptiform discharges ( n = 81; 72.3%). There were no significant differences between three groups of patients on ADI-R subscores. Speech development was also not significantly related to epilepsy. There was a slight tendency of the VABS-II motor skills score to be higher in the group of patients with autism without clinical diagnosis of epilepsy and without subclinical epileptiform discharges (p lt 0.05) in comparison with the two other groups. According to this tendency, we might claim that patients with higher scores on motor skills could have 0.88 times lower odds for having epileptiform EEG activity. Conclusions: According to our results, we were not able to detect differences in the ADI-R between the three populations with ASD, all with unknown etiology. Epilepsy, as well as subdinical epileptic discharges, showed small effects on Motor Skills in patients with autism, and had no effect on adaptive behavior Communication/Socialization/Daily Living Skills.

AB - In this paper, we present some initial results of a large scale experiment
designed to explore symmetrical judgments from a cross-linguistic perspective.
Our experiment was conducted with 4-6-year-old children and adults using the
same methodology in 12 languages: Catalan (Romance), Cypriot Greek (Greek),
Danish, Dutch, and German (Germanic), Croatian, Polish, Russian, Serbian and
Slovak (Slavic), Lithuanian (Baltic), and Maltese (Semitic). Our results show that
although children’s performance with universal statements is remarkably uniform
across languages, there is evidence that children find distributive universal
quantification in some languages more difficult than in others.

AB - Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of complex psychiatric disorders, with a proposed gene-environment interaction in their etiology. One mechanism that could explain both the genetic and environmental component is oxidative stress. The aim of our study was to investigate the potential role of common polymorphisms in genes for glutathione transferase A1, M1, T1 and P1 in susceptibility to ASD. We also aimed to explore the possible oxidative stress - specific gene-environment interaction, regarding GST polymorphisms, maternal smoking tobacco during pregnancy (TSDP) and the risk of ASD. This case-control study included 113 children with ASD and 114 age and sex-matched controls. The diagnosis was made based on ICD-10 criteria and verified by Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R). We investigated GSTA1, GSTM1, GSTP1 and GSTT1 genotypes and explored their individual and combined effects in individuals with ASD. Individual effect of GST genotypes was shown for GSTM1 active genotype decreasing the risk of ASD (OR = 0.554, 95% CI: 0.313-0.983, p = 0.044), and for GSTA1 CC genotype, increasing susceptibility to ASD (OR = 4.132, 95% CI: 1.219-14.012, p = 0.023); the significance was lost when genotype-genotype interactions were added into the logistic regression model. The combination of GSTM1 active and GSTT1 active genotype decreased the risk of ASD (OR = 0.126, 95% CI: 0.029-0.547, p = 0.006), as well as combination of GSTT1 active and GSTP1 llelle (OR = 0.170, 95% CI: 0.029-0.992, p = 0.049). Increased risk of ASD was observed if combination of GSTM1 active and GSTP1 llelle was present (OR = 11.088, 95% CI: 1.745-70.456, p = 0.011). The effect of TSDP was not significant for the risk of ASD, neither individually, nor in interaction with specific GST genotypes. Specific combination of GST genotypes might be associated with susceptibility to ASD, while it appears that maternal smoking during pregnancy does not increase the risk of ASD.

Studija je uključila 87 bolesnika koji su odgovorili na upitnike o kvalitetu života i funkcionalnim performansama: European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality-of Life-Questionnaire-C30 - EORTC QLQ-C30), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of-Life Questionnaire-Head and Neck 35 (EORTC QLQ-H&N35) i Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS), 12 do 14 meseci posle završenog onkološkog tretmana. Rezultati.
Considering the distinct increase in the incidence of oropharyngeal cancer over oral cavity cancers and changing epidemiology with human papilloma virus (HPV) infection emerging as an important risk factor, there is a need to establish better treatment choices in specific groups of patients with oropharyngeal cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life (QOL) and functional performance and the impact of different demographical data, stage of disease, and treatment type on these parameters in patients with oropharyngeal cancer with successfully achieved locoregional control a year after the treatment. Methods. Study included 87 patients who underwent QOL and functional impairment assessment 12 to 14 months after finished oncological treatment with the following questionnaires: the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality-of Life-Questionnaire-C30 (EORTC QLQ-C30), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of-Life Questionnaire-Head and Neck 35 (EORTC QLQ-H&N35) and the Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS). Results. Specific groups of patients had significantly different post-treatment QOL scores. The factors associated with the worse QOL scores were female gender, not being in a partnership, level of education and HPV status. Conclusion. Clinicians should consider socioeconomic factors and HPV status in planning the recovery after treatment of patients with oropharyngeal carcinoma. Gender, education level and employment are the variables that form a certain risk profiles associated with the lower QOL.

AB - This research explores two main objectives: 1st is to examine whether the Schwartz's value theory (Schwartz et al., 2012) can be applied to the Serbian sample, and 2nd is to examine the intensity and the direction of the relation of those values with cognitive and affective components of subjective well-being in the specific socio-political context, which Serbia as a country in transition represents. The sample includes 412 adults, with the average age of M = 34.42 (SD = 6.305). The following self-description measures are used: the Portraits Values Questionnaire (PVQ-RR, Schwartz et al., 2012), The Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen & Griffin, 1985), and Serbian Inventory of Affect based on the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule-X (SIAB-PANAS, Novović & Mihić, 2008). Gathered results demonstrate that the values established by the revised Schwartz's model are adequately organized in our sample. Obtained relations between those values and the subjective well-being components can be regarded as expected and in accordance with the healthy values perspective referring to the relation of values and SWB. Finally, the implications of the obtained results are discussed.

AB - This is an introductory abstract for other papers within this symposium, which are all part ofthe same study, Research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) in Serbia. ACE is atraumatic experience in one’s life occurring before the age of 18 that the person remembers asan adult. The purpose of this survey was to explore the prevalence of ACEs and their correlateson a sample of 18-65 years old in Serbia. We used multistage random sampling, with a stratifiedcluster sample in the first (187 settlements were sampled from 4 regions), and random samplein the second stage (a random-walk technique for sampling participants). The final sampleconsisted of 2792 respondents (57.4% females), interviewed face-to-face. Instrument packageincluded: ACE International Questionnaire, Health Appraisal, Family Health History, TraumaSymptom Checklist, Benevolent Childhood experience, Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised, HEXACO, DELTA9, and Non-suicidal self-injury. Each ACE was represented by abinary score, in two ways: (1) any ACE score implies that participant had a specific event atleast “once or twice”; (2) frequent ACE implies that participant had specific events “manytimes”. Factor analysis, principal axis with varimax rotation extracted three dimensions:violence (involvement in physical fight, bullying, community violence, physical abuse, collective violence, psychological abuse), neglect (depression in family, suicide in family, psychological neglect, sexual abuse and parental separation) and abuse (alcoholism in family, abuse of mother or father by the partner, incarceration of family member, drug abuse in familyand physical neglect). If we use ACEs as predictors of various life events in multiple regressionanalysis, the highest prediction is gained for a number of suicidal attempts (R2 = .53, F = 2.38;df = 17, 36; p < 0.05) - more ACEs lead to more attempts, with psychological neglect asstrongest predictor. Most frequent ACEs in Serbia are community violence (any 69.4%;frequent 37.7%), psychological abuse (any 43.7%; frequent 26.3%), and involvement in aphysical fight (any 37.7%; frequent 19.7%). For comparison, physical abuse and domesticviolence appeared more frequently in Serbia than in Wales study, while parent separation andsexual abuse appeared a bit more frequently in Wales sample. Possible higher prevalence of This is an introductory abstract for other papers within this symposium, which are all part ofthe same study, Research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) in Serbia. Possible higher prevalence of ACEs in our study might occur due to the context of the collective experience of wars, civilunrest, insecurity, etc.",

AB - Dropping out of higher education is a global phenomenon which affects virtually all universities. The main aim of this research is to determine the factors which have the most predictive value for students’ satisfaction with their studies and dropout intentions. The research was conducted on the sample of 673 students who completed a self-description questionnaire which included 22 dimensions of students’ perceptions of their studies. Based on a two-step cluster analysis, we have identified the group of students at risk of dropout. ANOVA has shown that the two groups differ on almost all investigated dimensions. Individual-related factors, developed in a specific context, are the main predictors of students’ dropout from higher education. Understanding of these factors can improve the system of early detection of students at risk of dropping out.

AB - Frequent visits to urban green areas have been widely demonstrated to bring notable health benefits to city residents and helped them to maintain contact with nature. Empirical evidence strongly supports the positive influence of a green environment on the physical and mental health of the population. However, there is a lack of existing literature on the Western Balkan region, with no evidence of whether the impact of urban green spaces on health depends on the type and average amount of green space available. This paper examines the connection between the perceived benefits of urban green areas and the physical and mental well-being of visitors in two central municipalities of the city of Belgrade (Serbia). For this purpose the survey was conducted on two hundred residents of the municipalities of Vracar and Cukarica. The object of the survey was to explore whether residents who live in areas with more green spaces perceive better physical and mental health and spend more time outdoors. A t-test for independent samples showed that the respondents who value recreational activities like walking and common activities perceive more social benefits of a green space. The results indicate that urban green areas are recognised as suitable settings for running and jogging, but also refer to their potential for the alleviation of self-reported nervous problems and medication use, therefore supporting further research on this topic.

AB - This study explores the impact of perceived top management involvement and knowledge sharing on perceived project performance. Relationships are examined from a sample of CEOs, directors and project managers from one large international bank in Serbia. Our results confirm that the "human factor" is critical to project success because perceived top management commitment exerts the most relevant direct relation, in addition to having an indirect relation through perceived knowledge management. Moreover, a nontrivial proportion of perceived project success (35%) is explained through perceived top management involvement and knowledge sharing.
