AB - Resolving conflicts in close relationships is challenging, especially when emotional injury is
involved, because this entails balancing partially conflicting stakes: maintaining the relationship
while preserving a favorable self- and other-view. Language–focused approaches highlight
important aspects of this process. Discursive psychology reveals how actors utilize rhetorical
devices to impose their own version and co-construct interactional identities. Narrative
psychology focuses on the personal story stabilized through multiple retellings and permanent
self- and other-constructions. However, our study of conflict negotiation and identity coconstruction
in adolescence highlights that, in addition to the analysis of discursive aspects, it is
relevant to conceptualize and analyse phenomenological and affective processes that strikingly
shape the participants’ language use and story creation. These include authentic emotions
(e.g. feeling hurt) and disclosing one’s own vulnerability (e.g. insecurities, partial responsibility
for relationship disturbance). The relevance of phenomenological processes is particularly
evident when participants use less constructive strategies for friendship rupture repair, which
entail verbal masking of unresolved tension by minimizing negative feelings, declaring that the
problem has “magically” disappeared and insisting on an unchanged level of closeness. The
unresolved conflict is linguistically, paralinguistically and performatively marked by: (a) the internal
contradictions in the personal story, (b) salient disjunctions of the versions offered by different
actors, (c) pronounced differences between the private and the shared narrative, preventing the
other from understanding one’s authentic experiences, and (d) perpetuated regressions to the
core plot, i.e. issue that caused the conflict. These contradictions, omissions and repetitions
convincingly (though indirectly) point to the affective processes that are either reflexively or prereflexively
present in both individual stories and close personal interactions, thus emphasizing
the importance of theoretical integration of phenomenological and discursive processes when
studying conflict negotiation in close relationships.

AB - The concept of evolutionism in art was an international phenomenon, which had a unique visual
expression in France in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. This was
contributed by the fact that France had a century of efforts to explain changes in nature, in the age
of the Enlightenment, which preceded the appearance of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. In
the first half of the 19th century, Jean-Baptiste Lamarck presented his theory of transformation, and
was considered the father of evolution in French culture. With the emergence of Darwin's theory
from the second half of the century, it comes to a noticeable separation between those who
supported his principles of evolution and on the other hand, those who advocated the neolamarckism typical for that time. This distinction also occurred in visual culture, and this document
investigates the ways in which artists who worked in France interpreted evolutionist ideas. The
emergence of works in the artistic phenomenon of evolutionism was determined by numerous
scientific discoveries in the field of theories of evolution, prehistoric archaeology, anthropology,
comparative anatomy and other related disciplines. The fall of the Second French Empire, the
Franco-Prussian War and the founding of the Third Republic were the historical and political
context that provides the conceptual framework for artistic creation in this field. Artists found
inspiration for their works both in the natural sciences, whose achievements were popularized in
institutions such as the Natural History Museum in Paris and at the Universal Exhibitions, as well as
in science-fiction novels and contemporary French literature. The concept of evolutionism cannot
be limited to one artistic style or movement, which is why the works within it will be systematized
here according to themes and motifs that have captured the imagination of artists for a long period
of time. A widespread theme in the concept of evolutionism was the representation of the distant,
prehistoric past, in which the motifs of the everyday life of the ancestors of modern people were
presented. Through representations of the first artist, hunting of antediluvian animals, prehistoric
crafts, home and family in the deep past, the artists represented a neo-lamarckist vision of
progressive, rectilinear evolution that testified to the glorious past of the French nation. The
nationalization of prehistory during the Third French Republic contributed to the general search for
origins within the political project of revanchism. On the other hand, after the Franco-Prussian War,
the collective understanding of identity was shaken, and the issues of struggle, degeneration and
primitive origin of people increasingly preoccupied people's minds. Therefore, this dissertation
explores the works of artists who, following Darwinian ideas, created representations of the struggle
for survival, sexual selection and biological hybrids. There will also be explored the works of artists
who used characters from ancient mythology and biblical history in a completely authentic way and
moved them into a new, evolutionist narrative. The dissertation brings together the works of more
than forty artists, most of whom have remained unknown to the general public until now. It explores
the relationship between contemporary scientific discoveries and art, the form and function of
artworks that conveyed evolutionist ideas, and sheds light on their significance in culture and art.

The concept of evolutionism in art was an international phenomenon, which had a unique visual
expression in France in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. This was
contributed by the fact that France had a century of efforts to explain changes in nature, in the age
of the Enlightenment, which preceded the appearance of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. In
the first half of the 19th century, Jean-Baptiste Lamarck presented his theory of transformation, and
was considered the father of evolution in French culture.
It explores
the relationship between contemporary scientific discoveries and art, the form and function of
artworks that conveyed evolutionist ideas, and sheds light on their significance in culture and art.",

AB - The conceptualization of mental disorders varies among professionals, impacting diagnosis, treatment, and research. This
cross-disciplinary study aimed to understand how various professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, medical
students, philosophers, and social sciences experts, perceive mental disorders, their attitudes towards the disease status of
certain mental states, and their emphasis on biological versus social explanatory attributions. A survey of 371 participants
assessed their agreement on a variety of conceptual statements and the relative influence of biological or social explanatory
attribution for different mental states. Our findings revealed a consensus on the need for multiple explanatory perspectives in understanding psychiatric conditions and the influence of social, cultural, moral, and political values on diagnosis
and classification. Psychiatrists demonstrated balanced bio-social explanatory attributions for various mental conditions,
indicating a potential shift from the biological attribution predominantly observed among medical students and residents
in psychiatry. Further research into factors influencing these differing perspectives is necessary.

How is Self-Fashioning Possible? Nietzsche on Agency and Freedom

AB - In this paper I shall explore how self-fashioning, as conceived by Friedrich Nietzsche, is possible. My goal is to show that self-fashioning is not jeopardized by Nietzsche’s determinism and his rejection of traditional ideas of selfhood, agency, and freedom. First, I shall clarify why the abandonment of this traditional conception of human beings is seen by some as deleterious to the project of self-fashioning. Afterwards, I shall argue that Nietzsche is a determinist: he maintains that one could not have acted otherwise. If thought of in this way, freedom is impossible. However, Nietzsche also has a more positive conception of freedom. Following John Richardson’s reading of Nietzsche, I shall examine the three main stages through which freedom evolves. I shall expand Richardson‘s account with a corresponding analysis of Nietzsche’s notion of responsibility. Finally, we shall see how a discussion of such issues allows us to understand how self-fashioning is possible.

How resistance to social change undermines personal change? Perspective of the Model of the Agonistic Self (MAS)

AB - The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the usefulness of the MAS in analyzing relatedness
between social and personal change. MAS is developed by integrating key ideas from Dialogical
Self Theory with contributions of Foucault’s analytics of power, and conceptualizes the self as
a polyphony of voices struggling to obtain power. The model entails: a) functions of voices, b)
forms and practices of exercising power, c) relationships between voices, and d) formative and
legitimizing effect of the context. Context-embedded self appears in the form of a constellation
of voices whose time-limited dynamic follows the specific and repetitive scenario which has a
particular psychosocial purpose. The focus of this paper is “King and his Kingdom” constellation
– “default” functioning when a person’s prevailing values, personified by the King’s coalition,
direct the behavior. The disturbance in the order of power between social discourses can lead to
legitimization of the interior voice which represents values different from the King’s. This voice
can shortly “take over the scene”, which marks a temporary personal change, with the possibility of
becoming a new King. However, reasserting the previous order of power between social discourses
results in strong delegitimization of change within the self, and in restoring the prevailment of “the
old” King, even when the person identifies more with the values proposed by the prospective “new”
King. This points to the strong dependence of permanent personal change upon the change within
the social context, which will be illustrated by the case study from the psychotherapeutic practice.

Kvаjn o ontološkim obаvezаmа i subdeterminаciji

AB - Cilj ovog istraživanja je kritička analiza Kvajnovog shvatanja ontoloških obaveza,
prevashodno u kontekstu njegovih teza o apsolutnoj istini i subdeterminaciji.
ontologije svoj potpuni oblik zadobija u njegovim poznijim radovima, gde uvodi tezu o
AB - This research aims to critically analyze Quine's interpretation of ontological commitment,
primarily in the context of his theses on absolute truth and underdetermination. Using the
interpretative-critical method, we will try to show that Quine's physicalist rendition of ontology
originates from his adoption of naturalism, along with his holistic approach to the knowledge
problems.
Following the method of conceptual analysis, we will see that Quine uses the term
‘physics’ in two different ways. In its narrow definition, physics is the science of matter, while in
a broader sense, it represents a global theory about the external world. Analogous to the term
'physics', we shall analyze the narrow and broad sense that Quine attributes to the term
'language'. We shall uphold the thesis of ontological parallelism between language and physics
(understood in its narrow sense) and claim that they, together with other scientific theories, form
a global theory that only in its entirety becomes the reservoir of ontological commitment. We
will argue that Quine's interpretation of ontology takes its final form in his later works, as he
introduces the thesis of absolute truth, which guarantees that the ontological commitment of the
global theory does not contain contradictions.
The consistency in the global theory's ontological commitment will be challenged in the
debate on the truth status of theories subject to underdetermination. Quine wavered for a long
time as to whether, in these cases, both theories are true (an ecumenical response based on
empiricism) or only one (a sectarian response based on naturalism). Relying on the historical and
interpretive-critical method, as well as the judgment that the global theory is the bearer of
absolute truth, we will argue that naturalism has an ontological precedence over empiricism and
that only one theory can be true, despite both of them being supported by the empirical evidence.

empirijskim svedočanstvom., This research aims to critically analyze Quine's interpretation of ontological commitment,
primarily in the context of his theses on absolute truth and underdetermination. Using the
interpretative-critical method, we will try to show that Quine's physicalist rendition of ontology
originates from his adoption of naturalism, along with his holistic approach to the knowledge
Relying on the historical and
interpretive-critical method, as well as the judgment that the global theory is the bearer of
absolute truth, we will argue that naturalism has an ontological precedence over empiricism and
that only one theory can be true, despite both of them being supported by the empirical evidence.",

AB - The use of taboo words represents one of the most common and arguably universal linguistic behaviors, fulfilling a wide range of psychological and social functions. However, in the scientific literature, taboo language is poorly characterized, and how it is realized in different languages and populations remains largely unexplored. Here we provide a database of taboo words, collected from different linguistic communities (Study 1, N = 1046), along with their speaker-centered semantic characterization (Study 2, N = 455 for each of six rating dimensions), covering 13 languages and 17 countries from all five permanently inhabited continents. Our results show that, in all languages, taboo words are mainly characterized by extremely low valence and high arousal, and very low written frequency. However, a significant amount of cross-country variability in words’ tabooness and offensiveness proves the importance of community-specific sociocultural knowledge in the study of taboo language.

AB - In this article, I shall explore the social dimension of Friedrich Nietzsche's views on self-fashioning, focusing on the interpretation offered by Alexander Nehamas. First, I shall briefly present Nehamas's understanding of Nietzsche's views on self-fashioning and the overall significance of their social aspects. Then I shall investigate the necessity of the audience to assess one's attempt at self-fashioning. Furthermore, I shall explore how one's pursuit of self-fashioning is influenced by and influences other similar efforts. Finally, the article will reveal the role of contest in the phenomenon of influence.

AB - The existance of soldiers in monastery or bishopric service was confirmed in numerous
Serbian medieval documents. The very expression "church soldier" was noted in several
monastery charters. Churches and monasteries don't have subordinated noblemen from the group
of highly ranked or medium ranked noblemen. However, there are numerous examples where
the church subjects are lower ranked noblemen, soldiers, small landowners or "pronija" holders.
The needs of church institutions for military class was not big. Yet, each one of the more
important monasteries had its crew which used to protect the very monastery, its squares, roads
and the safety of the property and monk community. The earliest mentioning of church soldiers
are found in the charter of king Milutin for the St. George monastery in Skopje, but their duties
were based on the old laws which used to be applies in the estate of Studenica and Mileševa
monastery.
In the process of forming large church estates, the rulers used to find the estates held
by small noblemen. They were mostly subordinated to monasteries then, and they would owe
their duties to the church master, instead of the ruler. A great number of small noblemen was
mentioned on Banjskа, Dečani and Saint Archangels properties. The charters of Dečani
monastery testify that it had a numerous and well developed military crew, inside of which there
were differentiations and various duties as well. At the head of the whole military crew was
"čelnik," and to his command laymen, military men, guards and semi-military craftsmen were
subordinated. Military horsemen are small noblemen heirs- at least seven families, which were
alternated in the military crew of the fort. Prohor and his men, with ten families were holding
guard, and the maintainance of the monastery fort was given to master Djordjija and his
companions. The monastery of Holy Archangels near Prizren also had a group of small
noblemen at its disposal. This monastery had at its disposal the fortress of Višegrad in which the
military crew in charge of the defense was based. In post Nemanjić era the number of small
noblemen mentioned in monastery charters was smaller. Monastery Ravanica and Resava were
begirded with solid forts like many other towns of that period and they certainly had serious crew
which was under ruler's jurisdiction.

AB - Although there have been many studies on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and emergency remote education (ERE) on students, there has not been enough research about gifted students’ experience. This paper aims to understand gifted students’ perceptions of effective and ineffective school practices during ERE. Gifted students were recruited on the recommendation of school counselors based on students’ demonstrated exceptional abilities and achievements in one or more areas. Thus, purposive homogeneous sample of gifted students in Serbia consisted of 19 gifted students from elementary schools and 11 secondary school students. The conducted semi-structured interviews covered various themes related to students' school and out-of-school life during the pandemic, but for this paper we focused on qualitative data analysis of effective and ineffective school practices Thematic analysis yielded six themes referring to effective, engaging practices and eight themes referring to ineffective, disengaging practices. Gifted students positively assessed additional educational support, video conferencing and using LMS. Additional support was in the form of additional group or individual classes (in-person or online) or posting additional materials in LMS. However, students reported that additional classes were closely tied to competitions and that they are not organized regularly throughout the school year even in regular circumstances. Disengaging factors were predominantly related to traditional teaching methods and lack of interaction, absence of additional educational support from the school, difficult monitoring of assessment, epidemiological measures and lack of individualization and differentiation during the regular classes. Yet, many students showed understanding for teachers and have not developed negative emotions due to insufficient enrichment and support. In addition, when students initiated contact - teachers responded effectively. As a compensatory mechanism, younger students mentioned support from family, while secondary school students managed to improve their self-regulation and employ new learning strategies. We conclude that gifted students were not recognized as a vulnerable group, being left to organize themselves. Future studies should explore their needs related to ERE more deeply and acknowledge the perspectives of their teachers.

AB - This paper presents several documents kept in the archive of the city of Sombor in the fund of the Magistrate of the Free Royal City 1749-1918, which refer to an interesting case of an attempt to challenge the treatment given to two patients by the city
surgeon, Antonius Merkel. The lawsuit was filed by another doctor, Carl Reitzinger, accusing his colleague of excessive treatment costs and the use of certain medication. Although the attached documents do not shed light on the conclusion of the dispute, one
gets the impression that Antonius Merkel successfully justifies his actions. The transcribed and translated documents provide significant insight into the nature of medical
treatment in Sombor in the second half of the 18th century.

AB - In psychological science, replicability—repeating a study with a new sample
achieving consistent results (Parsons et al., 2022)—is critical for affirming the validity
of scientific findings. Despite its importance, replication efforts are few and far
between in psychological science with many attempts failing to corroborate past
findings. This scarcity, compounded by the difficulty in accessing replication data,
jeopardizes the efficient allocation of research resources and impedes scientific
advancement. Addressing this crucial gap, we present the Replication Database
(https://metaanalyses.shinyapps.io/replicationdatabase/), a novel platform hosting
1,239 original findings paired with replication findings. The infrastructure of this
database allows researchers to submit, access, and engage with replication findings.
The database makes replications visible, easily findable via a graphical user interface,
and tracks replication rates across various factors, such as publication year or
journal. This will facilitate future efforts to evaluate the robustness of psychological
research.

AB - Virtue epistemology is a contemporary approach to epistemology that focuses on the Aristotelian conception of intellectual virtues. It is not a single theory but a set of different approaches that can be grouped into strong and weak virtue epistemology theories, depending on how the concept of intellectual virtue is interpreted. Thus, one of the pioneers of this trend in epistemology, Linda Zagzebski, defends the strong thesis that key epistemic concepts are moral concepts borrowed from ethical discourse. The paper aims to examine how contemporary epistemologists refer to Aristotle’s theory of intellectual virtues and how epistemic virtues can be valuable to epistemology. That is, can the virtue-based epistemological approach(s) transform the field of contemporary epistemology focused on standard epistemological problems or, on the other hand, open entirely new fields of philosophical inquiry?

A New Climate for Human Nature? Navigating Social Theory through Postnature, the Anthropocene and Posthumanism

AB - By examining debates on the Anthropocene era ignited by new materialist and posthumanist scholarship, this paper aims to discern how these perspectives can reframe the human-nature nexus. It also considers how various “developmentalist” approaches might assume the role traditionally held by the concept of human nature. The first section highlights concerns raised by posthumanist and neomaterialist scholars about the marginalized status of “nature”, life, and biology within dominant constructivist viewpoints. A central argument posits that notions like “denaturalization” and biopolitics amplify societal dominance over nature, pushing social theory towards an anthropocentric and potentially biologically indeterminate stance. Contrasting this, the second section delves into modern interpretations of the planet in social theory, inspired by the emergence of the Anthropocene. This lens reveals a dynamic, co-constitutive relationship, tilting less towards the unilateral commands of “nature” and more towards understanding the evolution of human life and societal structures within Earth’s expansive temporal and spatial realms. The third section further unpacks these developmental ideas by juxtaposing the theories of Bruno Latour and Tim Ingold. The paper contends that both approaches endeavor to illuminate the complex processes underpinning the evolution of life forms, underscoring the significance of culture. In conclusion, the intricate postnatural landscape of the Anthropocene necessitates a more integrated human-nature relationship. This calls for not only discarding dehumanizing facets of human nature, but also fostering a renewed sensibility – a deeper form of humanizing that acknowledges and celebrates our shared existence with other species and entities.
Kroz ovu perspektivu otkriva sedinamična, ko-konstitutivna veza, koja manje naginje jednostranom diktatu „prirode“ a višeka razumevanju evolucije ljudskog života i društvenih struktura unutar prostranih vremenskih i prostornih domena Zemlje.

Deploying Kronfeldner’s Concept of Human Nature in Archaeology

AB - This essay represents a reflection on the role and relevance of the concept of human nature in archaeology, inspired by the ideas about human nature presented and elaborated by Maria Kronfeldner in the book What’s Left of Human Nature?. It is a comment from an archaeologist’s perspective. Kronfeldner formulated three ways in which human nature can be conceptualized: classificatory, descriptive and explanatory human nature. In the text, I review the archaeological and anthropological topics for which the three aspects of human nature are relevant. In the first part, I address the problems related to the concepts of classificatory and descriptive human nature in the late Pleistocene, when Homo sapiens was not the only species of the genus Homo on the planet. In the second part, I discuss the role of human nature from the epistemological position when it comes to the theoretical basis of reconstructing human behavior in the past and the more general anthropological issue of establishing cross-cultural regularities and laws. This is by no means a comprehensive and detailed survey of the potentially relevant topics, but it should illustrate the usefulness and relevance of Kronfeldner’s concepts for the fields of archaeology and anthropology.

AB - This chapter tackled the reception of Dewey’s work in different political eras of an other-than-Western context, namely, that of former Yugoslavia and Serbia. The chapter shows how different ideological positioning of the state politics in different eras, within a relatively short time line, informed the reading, interpretation and application of Dewey’s work. The lessons for an emancipatory classroom practice is the consideration of how ideological and political positioning of any country/state informs the reception of any ideas, whether they are deemed emancipatory or not.

AB - Understanding the nature of copying errors in the cultural transmission of material culture is highly relevant for students of cultural evolution, especially in the field of evolutionary archaeology. In this paper, we set up a classic transmission chain experiment, which involves making clay anthropomorphic figurines, to explore the nature of the copying error related to the production of 3D objects. The experiment consists of four independent transmission chains, each with 10 participants. Three chains are non-expert chains, as they consist of students of archaeology and psychology with no formal training in arts. The fourth is an expert chain consisting of art students. Our results show that the copying error predictably differs between the experts and the non-experts – it is lower in the expert chain. However, in both groups, the error is higher than predicted by the models that assume that the copying error is only due to imperfections in the perception of linear dimensions. Taken together, these two results suggest that, in addition to the error in perception, the error in the execution contributes significantly to the overall error, as predicted by the recently formulated object-mediated transmission model (Crema et al., 2023). The results of our experiment also show that the errors are often biased rather than random, suggesting that the transmission process involves the transformations anticipated by the cultural attraction theory.
