Предвиђање времена и време као облик дивинације у антици

Abstract

Предмет овог рада је Цицеронов спис De divinatione, који ће нам својим многобројним примерима из историје грчког и римског народа помоћи да сагледамо узрочно-последични низ кризе, дивинације и њеног превазилажења, те улоге појединца у поменутом низу. Цицерон у овом спису новијег филозофског дискурса са религијском тематиком аргументовано расправља о дивинацији, износећи опречне ставове кроз свој лик и лик свог брата Квинта. Занима нас шира слика јавног мњења Римљана о овој вештини, колики утицај појединац који добија дивинацију има на исход прореченог с обзиром на то да традиција доношења како јавних тако и личних одлука у складу са ауспицијама сеже до ab urbe condita. Анализираћемо примере које нам дају Квинт и Марко, и утврдити који су путеви преноса дивинације од богова ка људима, да ли је комуникација једносмерна или двосмерна и да ли се из ње могу „прочитати“ намере богова који их шаљу.

In this paper, we reviewed the ways of predicting weather conditions in antiquity, primarily in Greece and Rome. Our intention was to show to what extent the ancient people relied on the so-called astrometeorology, and to what extent they used popular interpretations of the weather signs. Meteorological phenomena and weather conditions were an important topic in people’s everyday lives, but also one of the most common topics in the ancient literature in its broadest spectrum: they were the subject of both nature writings and artistic literature. The Greeks have made a lot of progress in this field, and other nations later continued in a way that the science took primacy over popular beliefs. On the other hand, our goal was to present interest in weather conditions from another perspective, as a common form of divination in antiquity. For this purpose, we explored examples from the work of Marcus Tullius Cicero – On divination (De divinatione). The author of this writing is a famous Roman statesman, lawyer and writer, who during his rich and versatile career, had the opportunity to deal with the given topic from both aspects. In his youth he translated the work of Aratus of Soli, Phenomena, translation of which has been preserved fragmentary, and also in the aforementioned work On Divination he presented examples of (unusual) weather phenomena that were interpreted as divinatory signs. His intention was not to give a definitive answer on the accuracy and validity of divination, but to discuss this complex phenomenon and present arguments for and against it. Cicero was one of the first Roman writers who dealt with religious topics from a philosophical argumentative point of view.
