Lessons from the margins: roma hidden identity politics and social distance management

AB  - The research presented in this paper seeks to explore, identify and map, within the respondents' narratives, the hidden strategies used by the members of Roma ethnic community for overcoming the frustrating social setting of (forced and/or voluntary) social distancing. These strategies are, antiintuitively, understood in our research as hidden potential/specific forms of socio-cultural capital, induced by the socio-historical subcultural experience of this ethnic community, with significant transformative potential. Adequate political articulation and proper social support could contribute to the transformation of this potential into tools for empowering Roma ethnic community and to its structural repositioning within the existing societal context of Serbian society. Empirical material was collected through 60 semi-structured in-depth interviews with Roma citizens, conducted in all four geographical-administrative areas of Serbia: (a) Vojvodina, (b) Belgrade region, (c) Sumadija and western Serbia, and (d) southern and eastern Serbia. The research sample was stratified according to: the geographical area in which the respondents live, the type of settlement (urban or rural), gender and age of the respondents. One third of the interviews from the sample were conducted with Roma respondents that were recognized by the members of Roma community as outstanding and/or successful individuals who overcame structural challenges in their personal lives. With reference to the narrative structure of respondents, the analysis identified five most frequent positive identity markers (nonviolence, non-vengefulness, solidarity, family cohesion, openness to other cultures), and the three most frequent negative identity markers (emphasized patriarchy, experience of social isolation and shame on the basis of ethnic origin). These specified identity markers could be interpreted as possible hidden potentials which if relocated to other fields of society, would enable members of the Roma ethnic community to improve their personal and collective structural position within the wider social system, but also as frustrating mechanisms that emphasize the element of isolation and prevent members of Roma ethnic community from integrating into the wider social system. Paradoxically, respondents perceive both identity markers as important elements of their own ethnic identity.

Jedno takvo primenjenoistraživanje sproveli smo u okviru interdisciplinarnog projekta Equitable Policies and Servicesfor Rare Disease Patients, Udruženja pravnika za medicinsko pravo (SUPRAM) u saradnji saCentrom za pravna istraživanja Instituta društvenih nauka (IDN), koji je podržala DelegacijaEvropske unije u Srbiji****. Cilj tog projekta bio je da prikupi, analizira i razume strukturneaspekte problema sa kojima se suočavaju oboleli od retkih bolesti i članovi njihovih porodica,kako bi se stvorila empirijski utemeljena osnova za javno zagovaranje promene javnih politikau ovoj oblasti društvenog života (Sjeničić & Milenković, 2016; Sjeničić & Milenković, 2015).

AB  - Пандемија вируса корона радикално је променила обрисе свакодневице, али је и учинила видљивијим проблеме са којима већ дуже време као друштво одлажемо да се суочимо. У тексту се разматра начин на који популистички политички менаџмент на власти управља образовним системом, посебно високим образовањем, изградњом специфичне паноптичке управне структуре, у чијем центру се налази популистички лидер. Таква јасно централизована структура одлучивања опструише и угрожава различите процесе у (високо)образовном пољу, од којих је можда најозбиљнији нарушавање аутономије универзитета.
AB  - The coronavirus pandemic has radically changed the coordinates of
everyday life. However it also reveals the problems that we, as a society, have been
delaying to face with in the long run. The paper discusses the way in which the
populist political management in power governs the education system and especially
higher education through the construction of a specific panopticum administrative
structure. In the center of that structure is positioned the populist leader.
Such a clearly centralized decision-making structure obstructs and jeopardizes
various processes in the (higher) education field. Among these processes, perhaps,
the most serious is the violation of the autonomy of university.

AB  - Rad nastoji da promisli jednu zaboravljenu polemiku iz istorije sociološke teorije između dvoje uglednih sociologa, Marijane Veber i Georga Zimela, o položaju žena u nemačkom društvu (i obrazovnom sistemu) početkom 20. veka. Autorke u tekstu nude novu interpretaciju ove polemike koju situiraju u društveni kontekst: (a) nemačkog društva krajem 19. i početkom 20. veka, (b) prvog talasa feminizma u Nemačkoj, i (c) individualnih habitusa glavnih protagonista ove polemike. Interpretacija pokazuje da, uprkos činjenici da se Veber suprotstavlja Zimelovoj hipotezi da bi žene trebalo da stvore drugačiji, nezavisan i alternativan kulturni sistem (subjektivnu kulturu) kao protivtežu dominantnoj muškoj objektivnoj kulturi, oboje pokušavaju da konceptualizuju stvarnost koja bi bila konstruisana na alternativnim sistemima vrednosti. Međutim, ovi konstrukti zamišljenih alternativnih stvarnosti bili su ograničeni akademskim, obrazovnim i političkim iskustvima njihovih tvoraca, kao i njihovom rodnom i klasnom pripadnošću.
AB  - The paper discuss the forgotten controversy from the history of sociological theory between two eminent sociologists, Marianne Weber and Georg Simmel, about the position of women in German society (and educational system) in early 20th century. The authors offer new interpretation of the controversy embeded into societal context of: (a) German society in late 19th and early 20th century, (b) first wave feminisim in Germany, and (c) individual habitus of its protagonists. The interpretation shows that inspite of the fact that Weber and Simmel confront their opinions about Simmel's hypothesis that women should create a different, independent and alternative cultural system (subjective culture) as a counterpoint to dominant male objective culture, they both made an attempt to conteptualize reality that will be constructed on alternative value systems. However, these alter realities were limited by the academic, educational and political experiences of their creators, as well as their gender and class belonging.

Dualno obrazovanje i pravičnost : osvrt iz perspektive Francuske sociologije obrazovanja

AB  - Imajući na umu da je Strategijom razvoja obrazovanja u Srbiji primećeno da u obrazovanju u Srbijipostoji „problem sa pravednošću” i da je kao jedan od ciljeva razvoja obrazovanja navedeno stvaranje„socijalno pravičnog društva”, u ovom radu se preispituje u kojoj meri su donošenje Zakona o dualnomobrazovanju i javno insistiranje na ekspanziji ovog vida obrazovanja koraci usmereni ka smanjenjunejednakosti. Oslanjajući se na ideje različitih francuskih sociologa obrazovanja (Burdije, Budon,Bodlo i Estable), kroz rad se ispituje u kojoj meri dualno obrazovanje otvara prostor za izjednačavanjeobrazovnih šansi i uspostavljanje pravičnijeg društva. Iz teorijskih uvida spomenutih autora koji setiču povezanosti klasnih struktura sa obrazovnim šansama, može se zaključiti da svako „grananje”unutar obrazovnog sistema doprinosi većim nejednakostima, o čemu eksplicitno govori RejmonBudon. Odlike dualnog obrazovanja podsećaju na „primarno zanatsko” obrazovanje o kojem govoreBodlo i Estable koji pokazuju da je ovakvo obrazovanje predviđeno za učenike iz neprivilegovanihdruštvenih slojeva kojima se kroz ovaj vid obrazovanja ograničava mogućnost vertikalne društvenepokretljivosti. Analizirajući različite interesne optike aktera, Burdije smatra da opšte obrazovanje,nasuprot obuci u firmi, radnicima daje određeni vid slobode, jer ih čini manje vezanim za jednopreduzeće. Školski sistem povezan sa industrijom, prema mišljenju ovog autora, oblikovan jeinteresima poslodavaca i suprotan je interesima radnika, jer čini društvo manje pravičnim umanjujućišanse za vertikalnu i horizontalnu društvenu pokretljivost. Na osnovu navedenog se može zaključitida dualno obrazovanje ne doprinosi smanjenju društvenih nejednakosti, te da bi u cilju stvaranjapravičnijeg društva od ovakvih obrazovnih politika trebalo odustati.
AB  - Bearing in mind that the Strategy for Education Development in Serbia perceives the existence ofa “justice issue” in education in Serbia, and that one of the stated goals of education developmentis creating a “socially just society”, this paper explores to which extent adopting the Law on DualEducation and public insistence on expansion of this mode of education are the steps towards reducinginjustice. Relying on the ideas of different French sociologists of education (Bourdieu, Boudon,Baudelot and Establet), the paper examines to which extent dual education opens up the space forbalancing educational opportunities and establishing a more just society. From theoretical insightsof the aforementioned authors regarding the relation between class structures and educationalopportunities, it can be concluded that any “branching” within an educational system contributes togreater inequalities, as explicitly asserted by Raymond Boudon. The characteristics of dual educationcorrelate to the “primary professional” education mentioned by Baudelot and Establet, illustratingthat such education is intended for students from underprivileged social strata, who have limitedopportunities for vertical social mobility due to this kind of education. By analysing various interestoptics of the actors, Bourdieu finds that general education, as opposed to company training, providesworkers with a certain form of freedom because it makes them less attached to a single company.The school system associated with industry, in the opinion of this author, is shaped by the interestsof employers and contrary to the interests of workers, as it makes society less fair by reducing thechances of vertical and horizontal social mobility. Based on the above, it can be concluded that dualeducation does not contribute to reducing social inequalities, and that in order to create a fairersociety, such educational policies should be abandoned.

AB  - During last several decades, sociological profession has faced serious challenges, both globally and locally. Within the context of labor market in Serbia these challenges, along with inadequate response of professional community; have resulted in the loss of professional monopoly for some job positions and roles. Once respected experts, sociologists, have lost professional monopoly on jobs recognized and affirmed by: (a) state, governmental and independent institutions; (b) business organizations; (c) civil society organizations; and (d) international organizations, all of which employ sociologists with diplomas received from universities in the Republic of Serbia. Although examples for this are numerous, we will limit the analysis to three case studies regarding professional positions of: (1) sociology teacher; (2) researcher in market research industry; and (3) employees of various international organizations. Analysis will use several different sources of empirical data: (a) various legislation and by-laws, especially rules on employment requirements (in state, public, and individual organizations); (b) job advertisements, where we will analyze required competencies for particular positions; and (c) current curriculums for BA and MA studies of sociology on the Department of Sociology Faculty of Philosophy University of Belgrade, where we will analyze provided professional competencies. Analysis will attempt to answer the question if there is a gap between professional competencies provided by study programs and those required of sociologists in the labor market. If the gap exists, we will provide potential solutions on the way in which it can be bridged and position of sociologists on labor market in Serbia improved.

medicinske i socijalne brige o pacijentima sa mentalnim teškoćama smeštenim
u zdravstvenim i socijalnim rezidencijalnim ustanovama na teritoriji Republike Srbije o standardima pružanja zdravstvenih i socijalnih usluga, iz perspective
poštovanja standarda ljudskih prava. Analiza je bila fokusirana na tri referentna okvira: (a) institucionalni, (b) profesionalni i (c) normativni okvir poštovanja
ljudskih prava u pružanju medicinskih i socijalnih usluga. Empirijski podaci na
osnovu kojih je izvedena analiza prikupljeni su uz pomoć fokusgrupnih intervjua
sa različitim društvenim akterima (lekarima, medicinskim sestrama i tehničarima,
negovateljima/-cama, socijalnim radnicima, psiholozima, specijalnim pedagozima
i pravnicima koji su zaposleni u ovim ustanovama, kao i predstavnicima različitih
stejkholdera.
AB  - The text reconstructs the perceptions of different social actors involved in the
process of medical and social care of patients with mental difficulties who are residents of health and social resident facilities in the territory of the Republic of Serbia
on the standards of providing health and social services from the perspective of respecting human rights standards. The analysis is focused on three reference frameworks: (a) institutional, (b) professional and (c) normative framework relating to
respecting human rights in the provision of medical and social services. The analysis was carried out based on empirical data collected by focus group interviews with
various social actors (doctors, nurses and medical technicians, caregivers, social
workers, psychologists, special pedagogues and lawyers who are employed in these
institutions, as well as representatives of various stakeholders).

Evolution of students' friendship networks: Examining the influence of group size

AB  - The main aim of this study was to examine the effect of the network size on formation and evolution of students' friendship relations. Data was collected from two groups of sociology freshmen: a group from the University of Belgrade, which represents a larger group, and a group from the University of Novi Sad, which represents a smaller group. The data was collected in three periods of one academic year. We analyzed the structural features of students' networks and constructed a stochastic model of network evolution in order to explore how friendships form and change during one year. The results showed that structural features of the larger and the smaller group differ in each stage of friendship formation. At the beginning of group forming, small world structure was noticeable in the larger group, although full small world structure was not confirmed in both groups. Furthermore, transitivity of triads had effect on the evolution of the larger network, while balance or structural equivalence had effect on the evolution of the smaller network. Results of the structural analysis are in line with findings of the network evolution model and together they provide an insight into how friendship evolves in groups of different sizes.

AB  - In this paper we analyze some aspects of the efficiency of labor markets in Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina and compare resulting outcomes with the outcomes of labor markets efficiency in selected economies of the European Union. A particular focus of our analysis is on gender equality, due to the fact that not only gender inequality negatively affects the quality of life of individuals and society in general, but also can produce significant macroeconomic losses which negatively affect economic growth and development. When formulating policy that aims to increase the employability and income of the local population, our recommendation to governments, non-governmental and supranational institutions is to simultaneously take all necessary steps in order to provide women equal access to labor markets. This primarily refers to equality in access to newly created jobs, the uniformity of wages for a work with equal qualification, equal access to employment in formal economy, equal safety at work, equal access to social safety net etc.

A particular focus of our analysis is on gender equality, due to the fact that not only gender inequality negatively affects the quality of life of individuals and society in general, but also can produce significant macroeconomic losses which negatively affect economic growth and development. When formulating policy that aims to increase the employability and income of the local population, our recommendation to governments, non-governmental and supranational institutions is to simultaneously take all necessary steps in order to provide women equal access to labor markets. This primarily refers to equality in access to newly created jobs, the uniformity of wages for a work with equal qualification, equal access to employment in formal economy, equal safety at work, equal access to social safety net etc.",

AB  - Iskustvo materinstva je u simboličkom smislu jedno od najznačajnijih ženskih iskustava, tesno povezano sa konstruktima naglašenog feminiteta (Connell, 1987). To je socijalno iskustvo koje u sebi sadrži unutrašnju ambivalenciju. S jedne strane ono predstavlja jedno od najličnijih i najintimnijih iskustava putem koga žene otkrivaju nove granice odnosa sa samima sobom i vlastitom telesnošću, dok sa druge strane ono predstavlja socijalni konstrukt kroz koji se prelamaju različiti odnosi moći unutar društva i kulture čiji smo deo preoblikujući njihove odnose sa drugima. Ovaj rad nastoji da rekonstruiše na koji način unutar svojih narativa žene različite starosti, obrazovanja i socijalnog porekla konceptualizuju sopstvena socijalna iskustva vezana za materinstvo, strategije prilagođavanja i eventualne promene vezane za sopstvenu poziciju unutar socijalne mreže porodičnih i društvenih odnosa. Na osnovu empirijskog materijala prikupljenog u okviru projekta Politike roditeljstva Instituta za sociološka istraživanja Filozofskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, rad rekonstruiše dva osnova tipa strategija prilagođavanja kojima žene pribegavaju kako bi unutar sopstvenog konstrukta materinstva i sa njim povezane identitetske pozicije uspostavile neku vrstu balansa u odnosu prema osujećujućim i obespravljujućim (širim i užim) referentnim društvenim kontekstima. To su: (a) strategija konformiranja ili mimikrije, koja se realizuje na dva moguća načina kroz: potpuno prihvatanje ideoloških i vrednosnih pozicija koje dominiraju unutar referentne porodične mreže, i praktikovanje prakse žrtvenog mikro-matrijarhata (Blagojević, 1997); i (b) strategija aktivnog suprotstavljanja, koja se takođe realizuje na dva različita načina kroz: indirektno konfrontiranje (strategija distanciranja), i/ili direktno konfrontiranje.
AB  - The experience of motherhood is, in a symbolic sense, one of the most important women's experiences closely associated with constructs emphasized femininity (Connell, 1987). It is a social experience that incorporates internal ambivalence. On the one hand it is one of the most intimate experiences through which women discover new frontiers of the relations with themselves and their own bodies. On the other hand it is a social construct through which different power relations that exist within the society and culture they belong to refract, and reshape their relations with others. This paper attempts to reconstruct how women of different ages, education and social background in their narratives conceptualize their own social experiences related to motherhood, strategies of adjustments and changes that these experiences produce related to their position within the social network of family relationships. On the basis of the collected empirical data within project Politics of Parenthood of Institute for Sociological Research (Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade) the paper reconstructs two basic types of adjustment strategies which women use in order to find a balance between their own construct of motherhood, and its own related identity positions, on the one hand, and frustrated and disempowered (wider and narrower) referent social contexts. These strategies are: (a) strategy of conforming or mimicry, which is being implemented in two possible ways through: full acceptance of the ideological and normative positions that dominate within the referent family network, and the practice of self-sacrificing micro-matriarchy (Blagojević, 1997); and (b) strategy of active confrontation, which is also being implemented in two different ways through: indirect confrontation (distancing strategies), and / or direct confrontation.

AB  - U radu se proučava obrazovna i ekonomska struktura Roma u Srbiji. Istraživanje se temelji na rezultatima popisa, koji su na teritoriji Republike Srbije sprovedeni 2002. i 2011. godine. Uočene promene u obrazovnoj upoređuju se sa promenama u ekonomskoj strukturi Roma između dva popisa. Sagledava se njihov uzrok ali i uticaj na budući položaj Roma u Srbiji. U radu se prikazuje i regionalna raspodela ove dve značajne demografske strukture. Poslednji deo teksta posvećen je analizi izvora sredstava za život romske populacije.
AB  - This paper examines the educational and economic structure of the Roma population in Serbia. The study is based on census data, which are conducted on the territory of the Republic of Serbia in 2002 and 2011. The observed changes in education structure are compared with changes in the economic structure of the Roma population between the two censuses. The authors make an attempt to understand their cause as well as the effect on the future status of the Roma population in Serbia. The paper shows the regional distribution of these two significant demographic structures. The last part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of the means of support and sources of livelihood of the Roma population.

AB  - Tekst analizira postojeću uslugu produženog boravka u osnovnim školama iz perspektive roditelja kao društvenih aktera. U savremenom društvu Srbije roditelji su izloženi različitim društvenim pritiscima koji proističu iz njihovih različitih strukturnih pozicija. Analiza pokušava da rekonstruiše: (a) iz kojih razloga se roditelji opredeljuju za ovu institucionalnu uslugu kao podršku sopstvenom projektu roditeljstva, a ne neku drugu, (b) na koji način je oni percipiraju (u smislu zadovoljstva), (c) na koji način bi želeli da ova usluga u budućnosti bude organizovana, kao i (d) da li određena specifična strukturna obeležja roditelja na to utiču. Suprotno istraživačkim očekivanjima analiza je pokazala da rod nije distinktivna varijabla, za razliku od obrazovanja i mesta stanovanja roditelja.
AB  - The text analyzes the existing day care service in primary schools from the perspective of parents as social actors. In contemporary Serbian society, parents are exposed to different social pressures arising from their different structural positions. The analysis tries to reconstruct: (a) the reasons why parents opt for this service, instead of other as institutional support for their own project of parenting, (b) the way in which they perceive this service (in the sense of satisfaction) and (c) how they would like that this service be organized in the future, and (d) whether certain specific parents' structural characteristics influence that. Contrary to the research presumptions analysis showed that gender is not distinctive variable, in contrast to the education and place of residence of parents.

AB  - Rad nastoji da odgovori na sledeća pitanja kroz analizu urađenu na izabranom uzorku brojeva popularnog srpskog/jugoslovenskog ženskog časopisa Bazar: Kako se izgradnja ženskih rodnih uloga diskurzivno konstruiše kroz medije unutar specifičnih društvenih okolnosti u srpskom/jugoslovenskom društvu u tri različita istorijska perioda (tokom 1970-ih, 1980-ih, 1990-ih)? Da li se i na koji način ovi hegemoni konstrukti feminiteta razlikuju među sobom? Da li su oni u saglasju sa realnošću svakodnevice unutar koje nastaju ili ne? Glavni nalaz ovog rada je da se unutar tri posmatrana istorijska perioda unutar medijske realnosti časopisa Bazar konstituišu tri različita idealno tipska hegemona konstrukta feminiteta. Ova tri modela idealno tipskih ženskih rodnih uloga su: (a) socijalistička 'super-žena' iz 1970-tih, (b) 'frustrirana super-žena' iz1980 i (c)'Eskapistička žena' iz1990 model '. Bez obzira na razlike svi ovi modeli svedoče o tome kako popularni ženski časopis prati politiku svoje izdavačke kuće, i zvanični ideološki politički diskurs, kroz medijsku produkciju specifičnih hegemonih ženskih rodnih uloga. Komparativna analiza ova tri modela hegemonih ženskih rodnih uloga i njihovog odnosa prema zvaničnom ideološkom političkom diskursu (koji je posredovan kroz uređivačku politiku časopisa Bazar i njegove izdavačke kuće Politika) potvrđuje da pogoršanje životnih uslova i povećanje socijalne nestabilnosti doprinosi uvećavanju jaza između medijskog konstrukta hegemonih ženskih rodnih uloga i realnosti svakodnevice društva unutar koga se one proizvode u određenom istorijskom trenutku.
AB  - This paper examines a select sample of popular Serbian/Yugoslav women 's magazine Bazar to address the question: How are the media construction of female gender roles discursively constructed within specific societal circumstances in Serbian/Yugoslav society in three different historical moments (in 1970s, 1980s, 1990s)? How do these hegemonic constructs differ among themselves? Do they correspond with everyday reality and in which way? The major finding of this paper is the existence of three ideal type of hegemonic female gender role models represented in women 's magazine Bazar in three different historical periods (1970s, 1980s, 1990s). These three ideal type models are: (a) the 1970s model of 'super-woman', (b) the 1980s model of 'frustrated super-woman' and (c) the 1990s model of 'escapist woman'. All of them testify how popular women's magazine follows the policy of its publishing house, and official ideological political discourse, through the media construction of hegemonic female gender role. The comparative analysis of these three models of hegemonic female gender roles and their relation toward official ideological political discourse (mediated through the policy of Bazar 's publishing house Politika) shows/confirms that the aggravation of living conditions and the increase of social instability enlarge the gap between media construct of hegemonic female gender role and the everyday reality of the society, in relation to which the HFGR is constructed in particular historical moment.

Bez obzira na razlike svi ovi modeli svedoče o tome kako popularni ženski časopis prati politiku svoje izdavačke kuće, i zvanični ideološki politički diskurs, kroz medijsku produkciju specifičnih hegemonih ženskih rodnih uloga. Komparativna analiza ova tri modela hegemonih ženskih rodnih uloga i njihovog odnosa prema zvaničnom ideološkom političkom diskursu (koji je posredovan kroz uređivačku politiku časopisa Bazar i njegove izdavačke kuće Politika) potvrđuje da pogoršanje životnih uslova i povećanje socijalne nestabilnosti doprinosi uvećavanju jaza između medijskog konstrukta hegemonih ženskih rodnih uloga i realnosti svakodnevice društva unutar koga se one proizvode u određenom istorijskom trenutku., This paper examines a select sample of popular Serbian/Yugoslav women 's magazine Bazar to address the question: How are the media construction of female gender roles discursively constructed within specific societal circumstances in Serbian/Yugoslav society in three different historical moments (in 1970s, 1980s, 1990s)? How do these hegemonic constructs differ among themselves? Do they correspond with everyday reality and in which way? The major finding of this paper is the existence of three ideal type of hegemonic female gender role models represented in women 's magazine Bazar in three different historical periods (1970s, 1980s, 1990s). These three ideal type models are: (a) the 1970s model of 'super-woman', (b) the 1980s model of 'frustrated super-woman' and (c) the 1990s model of 'escapist woman'. All of them testify how popular women's magazine follows the policy of its publishing house, and official ideological political discourse, through the media construction of hegemonic female gender role. The comparative analysis of these three models of hegemonic female gender roles and their relation toward official ideological political discourse (mediated through the policy of Bazar 's publishing house Politika) shows/confirms that the aggravation of living conditions and the increase of social instability enlarge the gap between media construct of hegemonic female gender role and the everyday reality of the society, in relation to which the HFGR is constructed in particular historical moment.",

AB  - Teza razmatra problem konstruisanja javnih i skrivenih kurikuluma srednjoškolske nastave sociologije u Srbiji u periodu izmedju 1960. i 2006. godine. Predočena anliza pokušava da rekonstruiše s jedne strane socijalni i politički kontekst društva Srbije, a sa druge obrise sociološke strukovne realnosti i prilika unutar zajednice sociologa u odredjenim istorijskim periodima kako bi razumela realna značenja odredjenih aspekata (javnih i skrivenih) kurikuluma u istorijskom interpretativnom kontekstu unutar koga su oni konstruisani. U analizi je korišćeno nekoliko različitih vrsta empirijskih podataka: (a) zvanični partijski i državni dokumenati relevanti za period i temu koje pokriva ovo istraživanje, (b) različiti zakonski i podzakonski akti kojima je regulisano polje srednjoškolske nastave i preciznije srednjoškolske nastave sociologije u različitim istorijskim periodima koje pokriva ova analiza, (c) raznolika arhivska gradja vezana za rasprave unutar užih strukovnih socioloških krugova, (d) podaci dobijeni iz izvedenih intervjua sa savremenicima neposredno uključenim u proces proizvodnje nastavnih planova i programa sociologije i udžbenika sociologije, i (e) podaci dobijeni analizom srednjoškolskih udžbenika sociologije korišćenih u periodu 1960-2006. Na osnovu ovih različitih vrsta podataka, a uz pomoć metodološkog postupka diskurzivne analize rad mapira tri različita istorijska perioda u kojima su izvršene značajne reformske intervencije u polju srednjoškolske nastave sociologije koji se vezuje za značajne reforme srednjoškolskog obrazovanja, koje su se odigrale (a) krajem 1950tih i početkom 1960tih (reforma gimnazija), (b) krajem 1970tih (reforma usmerenog obrazovanja) i (c) početkom 1990tih (reforma srednjoškolskog obrazovanja potaknuta raspadom bivše jugoslovenske države). Analiza pokazuje da je u ovim različitim istorijskim periodima odnos izmedju različitih aspekata skrivenog kurikuluma (pre svega poruka koje su bile u saglasju sa zahtevima države i političkog sistema i onim koje su proizhodile iz logike struke sociologije i klime unutar strukovne zajednice sociologa) unutar udžbeničkog teksta različito tematizovan. Upravo tematizacija ovog sistemskog protivurečja unutar skrivenog kurikuluma srednjoškolske nastave sociologije otkriva dragocene podatke vezane za istoriju sociologije na ovim prostorima.
AB  - The thesis addresses the construction of the overt and the hidden curricula of teaching high school sociology subject in Serbia between 1960 and 2006. The analysis hereby presented attempts to reconstruct the social and political context of Serbian society, on the one hand, and the outlines of sociological vocational reality and specific occasions within the sociological community in certain historical periods, on the other. Thus, the thesis strives to contribute to the understanding of the real meaning of certain aspects of (both overt and hidden) curricula in the historical interpretative context within which they were constructed. The analysis has been based on several types of empirical data: (a) the official Party and state documents relevant to the research topic and period covered by the study, (b) the various legal and sub-legal acts that regulate the field of secondary education, and more precisely sociology teaching within secondary education in different historical periods covered by the analysis, (c) diverse archive materials relating to debates within the narrow sociological professional circles, (d) data and findings derived from interviews with contemporaries directly involved in the production of curricula and high school textbooks in sociology, and (e) the data obtained by analysis of high school sociology textbooks used in the period 1960-2006. Based on these different types of data and the use of a methodological procedure of discursive analysis, the presented study maps three different historical periods in which the area of high school sociology teaching has significantly changed. These periods are closely linked to the major reforms of secondary education, which took place (a) in the late 1950s and early 1960s (reform of gymnasia), (b) in the late 1970s (the reform of vocational education) and (c) in the early 1990s (the reform of secondary education inspired by the disintegration of the former Yugoslav state). The analysis shows that in these different historical periods, the relationship between different aspects of the hidden curriculumwithin the textbook narratives has been differently thematized. This particularly refers to the messages that were derived from the requirements of the state and political system, as well as those that were derived from the logic of the sociological profession and the atmosphere within the professional community of sociologists. This thematization of the system’s contradiction within the hidden curriculum of high school sociology teaching reveals valuable evidence about the history of sociology in this region.

AB  - Rad predstavlja pokušaj rekonstrukcije jednog istorijskog perioda i konceptualizacije srednjoškolske nastave sociologije unutar njega, kroz razmatranje širih društvenih i užih strukovnih (socioloških) prilika unutar društva Srbije i SFR Jugoslavije. Posebna pažnja unutar rada je posvećena analizi dva srednjoškolska udžbenika sociologije (Radošina Rajovića iz 1981. i udžbenika Popovića, Rankovića, Milić i Bolčića iz 1981.) koji su korišćeni u srednjoškolskoj nastavi sociologije u periodu usmerenog obrazovanja. Rad nastoji da mapira socijalne i profesionalne društvene (i ideološke) protivrečnosti i sukobe unutar tadašnjeg jugoslovenskog društva i uže društva Srbije, ali i profesionalne zajednice sociologa koji su po mišljenju autorke bitno odredili sadržaj udžbenika i granice interpretacije određenih tema u njima, a posledično i strukturu i sadržaj srednjoškolske nastave sociologije u posmatranom periodu.
AB  - The paper represents an attempt of reconstruction of certain historical period and the conceptualization of high school sociology education within it, through discussion of broader social and sub-professional (sociological) circumstances within Serbian society and SFR Yugoslavia. Special attention in the paper is devoted to the analysis of two high school textbooks in sociology (textbook of Radošin Rajović from 1981. and textbook Popović, Ranković, Milić and Bolčić from 1981.) used in this historical period in secondary education on the territory of Serbia. The paper tries to map the social and professional (as well as the ideological) differences and conflicts within society (Yugoslav and Serbian) and the sociological professional community that strongly influenced on one side the content of textbooks, and on the other side the limits of interpretation of certain themes within them, and consequently on the structure and content of textbooks in sociology that were used in secondary education in this period.

AB  - Tekst analizira način na koji nastavnici i studenti u četiri univerzitetska centara u Srbiji (Beogradski univerzitet, Univerzitet u Novom Sadu Univerzitet u Nišu i Univerzitet u Kragujevcu) percipiraju problem efikasnosti studiranja u novom bolonjskom univerzitetskom okruženju. Empirijska baza podataka na kojoj počiva prezentovana analiza sastoji se iz dve vrste podataka, kvantitativnim i kvalitativnim, koji su prikupljeni uz pomoć dve vrste metodoloških instrumenata - anketnim upitnikom i produbljenim intervjuom, pri čemu je kvantitativni deo istraživanja sproveden na sva četiri univerziteta, a kvalitativni deo samo na Beogradskom univerzitetu. Dobijeni rezultati analize mapiraju ključne faktore koji utiču na efikasnost studiranja kao i neke od prvih strukturnih izmena u odnosima moći između različitih socijalnih aktera koji interaguju unutar novo reformisanog univerzitetskog polja.
AB  - This paper provides analysis on how teachers and students of four universities in Serbia (Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, and Kragujevac) perceive problems with efficiency of studying, with respect to the new, 'Bologna' organisation of studies. The empirical foundation for this paper is composed of questionnaires distributed to students and teachers of the five aforementioned institutions and a semi-structured in-depth interview with students and teachers of the two faculties of the University of Belgrade. The results presented point to key factors affecting efficiency of studying, as well as structural changes in power relations between different social actors.

AB  - Tekst analizira način na koji nastavno osoblje na Beogradskom univerzitetu percipira bolonjski proces, načelno i unutar lokalnog srpskog socijalnog i univerzitetskog konteksta; različite upravne instance unutar univerzitetskog obrazovnog sistema, mesto nastavnika unutar obrisa novog visokoškolskog obrazovnog sistema u procesu bolonjske transformacije. Empirijsku osnovu predstavlja istraživanje o uslovima rada nastavnog osoblja koje je Centar za obrazovne politike iz Beograda izveo na pet fakulteta Beogradskog univerziteta tokom 2008 godine.
AB  - The paper analyzes modes in which teaching stuff on Belgrade University perceive Bologna process, in global and local Serbian societal and university context, different administrative and management instances within higher education system, as well as teachers' relation toward these instances and the perception of teachers' place within this new higher education system caught in the intensive process of Bologna transformation. The empirical foundation of this paper represents the research of the labour conditions of university teachers that Center for Educational Policies performed during 2008 on five faculties from Belgrade University.

AB  - Aktuelni proces reforme visokog školstva u Srbiji nameće potrebu za standardizacijom rada zaposlenih u obrazovanju, kao i načina evaluacije njihovog rada i samog nastavnog procesa. Bolonjska reforma visokog obrazovanja u Srbiji, kao i u širem evropskom regionu, uvodi izvesne novine u procesu evaluacije rada nastavnika - obaveznost samoevaluacije i evaluaciju od strane studenata. Prve reakcije na Bolonjsku reformu u javnom diskursu otkrivaju brojne dvosmislenosti u tumačenjima ovakvog vida vrednovanja rada zaposlenih u visokom obrazovanju. Empirijska analiza intervjua sa univerzitetskim nastavnicima sprovedena na pet fakulteta Beogradskog univerziteta otkriva neka od simboličkih mesta otpora, ali i simboličkih mesta identifikacije i prihvatanja procesa evaluacije. Pažljivom analizom načina na koji ispitanici konstruišu narative o ideji evaluacije vlastitih nastavničkih praksi i argumenata koje oni iznose u korist ili protiv primene evaluacije otkrivaju brojne manjkavosti sadašnjih evaluacionih postupaka, ali i mogućnosti za njihovo poboljšanje i prilagođavanje aktuelnim potrebama nastavnog procesa u visokoškolskim institucijama.
AB  - Current process of the reform of higher education system in Serbia emphasize the issue of standardization of different aspects of teachers' work. Bologna reform introduces certain innovations in the process of evaluation of teachers work - obligatory self-evaluation and student evaluations. First reactions on these innovations stressing the question of ambiguity in interpretations of the results of this kind of evaluations. The empirical analysis of the collected interviews on five faculties of Belgrade University chart some of the symbolic points of resistance, as well as the points of symbolic identification and acceptance related to the process of evaluation. Careful analysis of the ways in which interviewees construct their narratives about the idea of evaluation of their own teaching skills and practices shows numerous defects of current evaluation procedures, as well as the concrete possibilities for their improvements and adjustments to the changed requirements of teaching process in higher education institutions.

Autorka izdvaja četiri osnovna načina samopozicioniranja mladih, pripadnika generacije R, u odnosu na aktuelni društveni kontekst: 'B92 generacija', 'provincijalci', 'fundamentalisti' i 'gosti', pomoću kojih prati promene u stavovima mladih prema politici, sopstvenom socijalnom i političkom angažmanu, pogledu u budućnost, doživljaju samih sebe i socijalne promene kojoj su svedočili ili u njoj participirali.
AB  - This paper discusses the position of young people in Serbia after October 5th 2000, as can be inferred from the evidence collected in the study 'Politics and everyday life: Serbia 1999-2002'. The author identifies amongst young people four basic modes of self positioning within the current social context, as described by the following labels: 'B92 generation', 'provincials', 'fundamentalists' and 'guests'. These views encompass politics, their own social and political engagement, views of the future, and their own selves.
