AB - The conceptualization of mental disorders varies among professionals, impacting diagnosis, treatment, and research. This
cross-disciplinary study aimed to understand how various professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, medical
students, philosophers, and social sciences experts, perceive mental disorders, their attitudes towards the disease status of
certain mental states, and their emphasis on biological versus social explanatory attributions. A survey of 371 participants
assessed their agreement on a variety of conceptual statements and the relative influence of biological or social explanatory
attribution for different mental states. Our findings revealed a consensus on the need for multiple explanatory perspectives in understanding psychiatric conditions and the influence of social, cultural, moral, and political values on diagnosis
and classification. Psychiatrists demonstrated balanced bio-social explanatory attributions for various mental conditions,
indicating a potential shift from the biological attribution predominantly observed among medical students and residents
in psychiatry. Further research into factors influencing these differing perspectives is necessary.

AB - Collectivism is consistently correlated with a positive attitude toward COVID-19
vaccination. Nevertheless, qualitative evidence on how collectivism benefits vaccination is scarce. Serbia has been transitioning from a socialist to a neoliberal
country for decades now, and its unique ideological context provokes different
forms of collectivism. Young adults are usually the ones who represent radical
political, non-neoliberal opposition, embracing collectivistic ideas. We selected a
group of self-declared collectivists from Serbia and encouraged them to express
their attitude toward vaccination. The final sample consisted of 16 narratives
(four female), written by 13 vaccinated and three unvaccinated participants. We
conducted two types of thematic analyses, resulting in 12 semantic (five collectivistic and seven individualistic) and two latent themes. The results unambiguously
showed the presence of individualism in the argumentation of self-declared collectivists, especially those unvaccinated. We proposed the term Neoliberal collectivism to reach a better understanding of young people’s perspectives in the
specific socio-political context.

AB - Purpose
The present study employed a narrative approach in order to explore how young people constructed meanings regarding their sense of self in the context of COVID-19 experiences. Adolescents have been identified as a particularly vulnerable group, as the developmental challenges they face are superimposed and amplified by the accidental crisis caused by the pandemic.
Methods
An in-depth narrative analysis was conducted on written accounts of 13 females aged 17–23 years from Serbia. We selected these narratives from a larger sample of 70 responses (M = 20.1; SD = 2.9; 85.7% female) collected via an online form. We used reflexive thematic analysis as a tool for the selection process of the narratives subjected to in-depth narrative analysis.
Results
Young people told stories that differ significantly in coherence, affective tone, personal agency, and depth of self-exploration. Narrative analysis of the selected accounts identified three distinct types of stories: (1) crisis as an opportunity for personal growth, (2) crisis as a risk for the sense of self, and (3) crisis as inner turmoil.
Discussion
Narrative analysis enabled us to recognize three distinct processes of youth meaning-making related to the sense of self in times of crisis, all reflecting a significant impact on their core developmental task. Personal narratives served different functions; for some, the pandemic was framed as a challenge one could grow from, while others were left devastated or overwhelmed. Narrative coherence reflected youths' capacities for integrating experiences not necessarily connected to their psychological well-being.
Implications and Contribution
The insights from this study may be helpful to those offering support to youth by helping them understand the roles self-narratives play in shaping young people's sense of self in times of crisis. Narratives can be of great value for mitigating the adverse effects of the superimposed crisis during adolescence.

AB - Systems View of School Climate (SVSC) theory defines school climate as physical, social and academic aspects of individuals’ experiences in the learning environment. Positive school climate has been consistently associated with wellbeing. However, this perception is influenced by often-overlooked ethnic and cultural pluralities. Research points to the benefits of inclusive school practices in fostering ethnic identity, promoting resilience, self-esteem and sense of happiness. The present study examined students’ perceptions of school climate and personal wellbeing in relation to the secondary school ethnic structure in Serbia. Data from 661 first and third graders (36% male, 48.3% female, 15.7% other/undisclosed) were gathered using the Personal Wellbeing Index and the Delaware School Climate Scale. Schools were categorized into those in which the majority belonged to the dominant ethnic group, a minority (Bosniak/Hungarian) or those with an equal representation of the dominant and minority groups. Results show that students perceived the school climate as moderately positive (M = 59.58, SD = 9.44, on a scale 21–84) and their overall wellbeing ranged from moderate to high (M = 7.48, SD = 2.7, on a scale 1–10), with a statistically significant positive correlation (r = .29, p < .01). In schools where the majority of students were Serbian, school climate was assessed more positively than in the other two school types (F(2, 658) = 5.7, p = .004), with no differences regarding overall wellbeing (F(2, 658) = .177, p = .838). Older and students with other/undisclosed gender perceived school climate and personal wellbeing more negatively. In line with previous studies, less positive assessment of school climate was characteristic for minorities, suggesting school climate often reflects values of dominant groups. Findings indicate that school ethnic structure should be taken into account in order to enhance the sense of belonging and safety for students of different cultural backgrounds.

AB - Cultural orientation variables, particularly collectivism, have been shown to be related to COVID-19 pandemic protective behavior, including vaccination. The influence of collectivism might be particularly interesting in the Serbian context, considering the society has been transitioning from socialism to neoliberal capitalism. This study aimed to explore the argumentation young collectivists used in construing their vaccination attitudes, which might inform us on potentially more efficient communication strategies for promoting vaccination. Sixteen purposely sampled self-declared collectivists (aged 20-34, M = 27.71, 25% female) were asked to write about
their thoughts on vaccination and arguments for (not) taking the vaccine. Two-phased analysis was conducted. In the first step, we applied thematic analysis resulting in 12 semantic (5 collectivistic and 7 individualistic) and two latent themes (Janičić et al., in review). The most prominent finding was the frequent use of (horizontal) individualistic argumentation among self-declared collectivists while discussing the COVID-19 vaccination. This combination of collectivistic and individualistic argumentation was further explored through narrative analysis, which confirmed such inconsistencies in their narrations. Moreover, the analysis of emotional tone revealed anger toward those hesitant to vaccinate, as well as the practice of shaming them, which were interpreted as closely related to vertical collectivism but potentially harmful in promoting mass vaccination. On the contrary, understanding those who oppose vaccination was seen as an expression of horizontal individualism, possibly more beneficial for questioning opposing attitudes. Our findings challenge the superiority of collectivistic argumentation in the context of mass vaccination, which might be optimistic for predominantly individualistic, neoliberal societies.

AB - A recent study (Bőthe et al., 2020) has examined pornography use profiles, showing that
high frequency pornography viewing is not necessarily a sign of problematic use. However,
to better differentiate between engaged and problematic use, functional impairment should
be considered. The present study aimed to determine profiles of pornography users based
on problematic pornography use (PPU) items, pornography use frequency and functional
impairment associated with pornography use. An online study was conducted on Croatian
(N=681, female=49.7%) and Serbian (N=971, female=51.8%) community samples. PPU
was measured by the 6-item Problematic Pornography Consumption Scale (Bőthe et al.,
2018), pornography frequency by one item (1=never, 7=several times per day), and functional
impairment by 3 items in the following domains: school/work, social life/free-time
activities and family life/housework. Latent profile analysis was used to classify pornography
users. Based on fit indicators and practical usefulness, a three-profile solution was selected in
both Croatian and Serbian samples. The profiles were labelled as: non-problematic average
frequency pornography use (80.7%/83.5%), non-problematic above average frequency pornography use (14.9%/13.7%), and problematic above-average frequency pornography use
(4.4%/2.8%). Differences between the three profiles were found in terms of gender, religiosity,
attachment anxiety and avoidance, as well as depression, anxiety, and stress. Functional
impairment was the key differentiator between the profiles, which has implications for understanding and assessing PPU, as well as for clinical practice.

AB - The coping styles mature throughout adolescence, representing one of the indicators of positive psychological well-being. Previous research has shown that adolescents use a variety of coping strategies to face both everyday stressors and major life events. The COVID-19 pandemic could be considered a prolonged crisis, which entails a critical initial event, followed by daily hassle after an adaptation period. The Response to Stress Model proved to be a useful framework for understanding the coping process during the pandemic, distinguishing between primary (altering the situation) and secondary (adapting to a situation) engagement/approach coping versus disengagement/avoidance coping. This study aimed to identify adolescents’ adaptive coping strategies, following their cognitive appraisal of experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were asked to write about their experiences during the pandemic and the narratives obtained online were subsequently organised using thematic analysis. The initial sample consisted of 70 adolescents’ narratives. However, only those who unambiguously reported using a coping strategy were selected for the analysis. The final sample included 50 participants (7 male and 43 female) aged 14-25 (M = 20), both high school and university students. Participants recognised various aspects of the pandemic as challenging: fear of infection, difficulties regarding online school, curfew and lockdown, missing experiences, peer isolation, family quarrels, worsening of the pandemic, other peoples’ suffering, and inconsistent media reports. They experienced worry, fear, sadness, frustration, fatigue, helplessness, anxiety, confusion, or distrust, which consequently activated various coping strategies. Thematic analysis was conducted on a total of 132 coded segments, guided by both an inductive and a deductive approach, based on the Response to Stress Model. Coping strategies identified in the narratives were sorted into seven main themes (frequencies refer to the total number of participants who used that coping strategy): I. proactivity (new everyday activities - 17, physical activities - 8, volunteering - 2); II. focusing on the positive (personal perspective - 21, social comparison - 5); III. acceptance & adaptation to the situation (19); IV. hope for the future & quick return to normal (15); V. focusing on here & now (7); VI. stress avoidance (8); and VII. humour (1). In terms of the proposed theoretical model, participants predominantly relied on secondary engagement/approach coping i.e. adapting to a stressor through positive thinking, cognitive restructuring, distractions and acceptance. Since the pandemic situation was seen as uncontrollable, the use of primary engagement coping strategies, especially problem solving, was probably very limited, if not impossible. Only two of the strategies can be considered disengagement coping. On the one hand, stress avoidance shielded adolescents from distress caused by inconsistent and overwhelming media reports, while hope for the future could occasionally be characterised as wishful thinking, expecting everything to work itself out. To conclude, the COVID-19 pandemic imposed specific challenges for adolescents, which were mainly managed by ‘changing the perspective’ through secondary engagement coping strategies. An important source of adolescents’ resilience is their psycho-physical vitality, allowing them a quick and flexible adoption of coping strategies even in the face of a global crisis.

AB - This work focused on the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on youth’s significant relationships. It was a part of a broader qualitative study of young people’s narratives (administered online) about their experiences during the first year of the pandemic. The coding scheme was developed on the initial sample of 70 narratives, while 41 of those narratives containing codes about relationships (family, friends, romantic partners, community) were chosen for thematic analysis. Seven major themes were extracted: 1. Quality time with family; 2. Tensions between household members; 3. Missing close friends; 4. Missing social life; 5. Re-evaluating the role of others; 6. Benefits of romantic relations; 7. Connecting with the community. Participants noticed that their relationships with family members, peers, romantic partners and communities were different. Some of these changes were seen as positive (more time together, closeness, sense of belonging and shared experiences), while others were regarded as unfavorable or detrimental (physical and emotional distancing from peers, missing out). The pandemic significantly affected young peoples’ quality of contact with others. The results imply that relational functioning should be assessed during a time of crisis, when it could be even more important than in regular circumstances, as a resource or an additional challenge.

AB - Although emerging adults are generally more physically resilient to the severe effects of COVID-19, they might be vulnerable to the psychological stressors brought about by the crisis. Using semi-structured interviews, this qualitative research aimed to explore the experiences, well-being, coping strategies and future expectations of 15 emerging adults in Serbia during the state of emergency caused by the global pandemic. As a result of thematic analysis, six main themes emerged, focusing on: 1) disruptions in everyday life and functioning; 2) the pandemic as a health crisis; 3) public reaction to the pandemic as a source of tension and frustration; 4) crisis as an opportunity; 5) coping strategies; 6) imagining the post-pandemic future. The present study points to the resilience and resourcefulness of emerging adults in the local context and emphasizes the heterogeneity of this age group and the vulnerability sources of those who might need additional support.

AB - The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant disruptions in young people’s everyday functioning. One of the most detrimental effects on their life satisfaction and wellbeing has been attributed to the sudden and unexpected closure of academic institutions. In previous research, the shift to home-based e-learning has been linked to dissatisfaction with the educational process, the inability to spend time with peers, and the occurrence of stressrelated symptoms and learning difficulties. This study explores the students’ perspectives on online learning in Serbia during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on their well-being. The qualitative research methodology was applied in the form of in-depth semi-structured interviews. The sample included 15 participants (6 male), both university and final-year high-school students, aged 18-26. Their answers were transcribed and thematically analyzed, generating five central themes: 1) inadequate organization of the education process, 2) lack of resources, 3) difficulties with self organization, 4) loss of live contact with peers, and 5) uncertainties regarding the continuation of the studies. All students recognized online learning as a serious challenge, resulting in elevated stress levels. They viewed the education process as inadequately adapted to the new circumstances, while practical skills instruction (e.g., art, maths) arose as a particular issue. Moreover, some participants faced additional difficulties, such as the lack of technical means (e.g., internet connection) or personal space for studying. Due to the lack of information from academic institutions and the loss of an external structure, students found learning more difficult, often dealing with confusion, low motivation, poor focus, and procrastination. Home-based education led to dissatisfaction with social life, which was limited to online contacts. Finally, the uncertainties regarding the future organization of their studies increased anxiety levels, recurrently enhancing the mentioned challenges. The findings suggest that both high-school and university students included in this study perceived online learning during the first wave of the pandemic as stressful and insufficiently oriented towards their needs, thus negatively affecting their wellbeing. Subsequently, several practical guidelines for the organization of online learning are offered, which could prove beneficial for academic institutions and students alike.

abstract = "The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant disruptions in young people’s everyday functioning. Subsequently, several practical guidelines for the organization of online learning are offered, which could prove beneficial for academic institutions and students alike.",

Naša kvalitativna studija je omogućila longitudinalno ispitivanje i praćenje promena u svakodnevnom iskustvu i funkcionisanju, strategijama prevladavanja teškoća i doživljaju kvaliteta života tokom trajanja pandemije.

Najčešće su brzi, nevoljni, stereotipni pokreti i vokalizacije jednostavni-u vidu treptanja, ušmrkivanja, iskašljavanja, stenjanja i sl., dok složeni motorni tikovi uključuju facijalne gestikulacije, dodirivanje i mirisanje, a vokalni ponavljanje reči, psovanje, izgovaranje kolokvijalnih uvreda i sl.

Najčešće su brzi, nevoljni, stereotipni pokreti i vokalizacije jednostavni-u vidu treptanja, ušmrkivanja, iskašljavanja, stenjanja i sl., dok složeni motorni tikovi uključuju facijalne gestikulacije, dodirivanje i mirisanje, a vokalni ponavljanje reči, psovanje, izgovaranje kolokvijalnih uvreda i sl.

AB - Due to the rapid increase of the incidence of divorce in modern society a growing number of minor children are facing the consequences of this stressful life event. Therefore, based on the analysis of empirical studies, this paper considers negative effects of divorce on children, maladaptation factors and possible interventions. Research findings indicate that, even when variables before parental divorce are controlled, children and adolescents from divorced families are 2.5 times more likely to experience behavioral, emotional, psychosocial, academic and other adaptation problems compared to children and adolescents from nondivorced families (25% : 10%). A number of studies consistently show that long term negative effects of divorce are strongly related to conduct disorders, impulsivity and delinquency of children, as well as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, problems with parent-child relationship (especially with nonresidential parent), in relations with peers and authority figures. Additionally, they are more likely to have lower academic achievements, drop out of school and have other problems (such as three times higher incidence of teen pregnancy). This paper examines empirically verified factors important for the prediction of long-term unfavorable consequences of divorce on children (child characteristics, parent child relationship, parental conflicts, parental custody, relationship quality with nonresidential parent, remarriage, etc.), as well as individual risk and protective factors important for predicting (mal)adjustment. Additionally, interventions focused on children, on parents and community-based interventions are presented, with the analysis of available research findings on their efficacy. It is concluded that conditions, negative effects, protective and risk factors of divorce need to be carefully and individually assessed having in mind the specific needs of the child, in order to provide a tailored intervention. Parental divorce is a difficult and painful process for children no matter of their age, so it is expected that the adaptation period lasts two years. Generally, interventions focused on the reduction of parental conflict and promotion of positive relations of the child with both parents, such as mediation and supportive programs in schools, show more favorable effects.
