AB - Purpose
The present study employed a narrative approach in order to explore how young people constructed meanings regarding their sense of self in the context of COVID-19 experiences. Adolescents have been identified as a particularly vulnerable group, as the developmental challenges they face are superimposed and amplified by the accidental crisis caused by the pandemic.
Methods
An in-depth narrative analysis was conducted on written accounts of 13 females aged 17–23 years from Serbia. We selected these narratives from a larger sample of 70 responses (M = 20.1; SD = 2.9; 85.7% female) collected via an online form. We used reflexive thematic analysis as a tool for the selection process of the narratives subjected to in-depth narrative analysis.
Results
Young people told stories that differ significantly in coherence, affective tone, personal agency, and depth of self-exploration. Narrative analysis of the selected accounts identified three distinct types of stories: (1) crisis as an opportunity for personal growth, (2) crisis as a risk for the sense of self, and (3) crisis as inner turmoil.
Discussion
Narrative analysis enabled us to recognize three distinct processes of youth meaning-making related to the sense of self in times of crisis, all reflecting a significant impact on their core developmental task. Personal narratives served different functions; for some, the pandemic was framed as a challenge one could grow from, while others were left devastated or overwhelmed. Narrative coherence reflected youths' capacities for integrating experiences not necessarily connected to their psychological well-being.
Implications and Contribution
The insights from this study may be helpful to those offering support to youth by helping them understand the roles self-narratives play in shaping young people's sense of self in times of crisis. Narratives can be of great value for mitigating the adverse effects of the superimposed crisis during adolescence.

AB - The aim of this work was to understand what education meant to students during the Covid-19 pandemic and in what context educational activities and organisational changes in schooling were mentioned spontaneously. This paper is a part of a broader qualitative study in which the students’ narratives about their experiences during the first year of the pandemic were collected online. From the initial sample, which consisted of 70 narratives, only those with educational content were selected for further analysis. Thus, the final sample included 34 narratives from 17 high school and 17 university students (5 male and 29 female participants) aged 15-25 (M=20). University students’ reports were more related to positive aspects of online learning and advantages of self-organising as well as concerns about the further education, while secondary school students referred more to difficulties arising from new practice which had significant impact on daily routines and social aspects.
i društveni život.

AB - Collectivism is consistently correlated with a positive attitude toward COVID-19
vaccination. Nevertheless, qualitative evidence on how collectivism benefits vaccination is scarce. Serbia has been transitioning from a socialist to a neoliberal
country for decades now, and its unique ideological context provokes different
forms of collectivism. Young adults are usually the ones who represent radical
political, non-neoliberal opposition, embracing collectivistic ideas. We selected a
group of self-declared collectivists from Serbia and encouraged them to express
their attitude toward vaccination. The final sample consisted of 16 narratives
(four female), written by 13 vaccinated and three unvaccinated participants. We
conducted two types of thematic analyses, resulting in 12 semantic (five collectivistic and seven individualistic) and two latent themes. The results unambiguously
showed the presence of individualism in the argumentation of self-declared collectivists, especially those unvaccinated. We proposed the term Neoliberal collectivism to reach a better understanding of young people’s perspectives in the
specific socio-political context.

AB - This research was part of a broader study that investigated differentiation of self (DoS), a concept introduced by M. Bowen. Previous studies suggested that better DoS predicts higher levels of well being (WB). This work aimed to determine whether four subscales of Differentiation of Self Inventory, Emotional Reactivity (ER, 11 items), “I” Position (IP, 11 items), Emotional Cutoff (EC, 12 items), and Fusion with Others (FO, 12 items), represent significant predictors of different aspects of WB, measured through the Flourishing Scale (FS; Likert, 1-7), an 8-item summary (feeling of life purpose, social life satisfaction, engagement in everyday life, contributing to others’ well-being, self-esteem, self and life satisfaction, optimism, perceived respect of others). The sample included 364 university students, aged 18-30 (M = 21.44, SD = 2.36, 81.3% female). Multiple linear regression analysis was used. Following aspects of well-being were significantly predicted (p < .00): feeling of life purpose (R2 = .28) by EC (β = .38), IP (β = .28) & FO (β = -.16); social life satisfaction (R2 = .17) by EC (β = .33) & FO (β = -.28); engagement in everyday life (R2 = .20) by EC (β = .29), FO (β = -.20) & IP (β = .25); contributing to others’ well-being (R2 = .19) by EC (β = .30), FO (β = -.16) & IP (β = .28, p = .00); self-esteem (R2 = .18) by EC (β = .24) & IP (β = .29); self and life satisfaction (R2 = .27) EC (β = .38), IP (β = .29) & FO (β = -.23); optimism (R2 = .27) by EC (β = .28), IP (β = .32), ER (β = .19) & FO (β = -.17); perceived respect (R2 = .20) by EC (β = .28), IP (β = .20), ER (β = .19) & FO (β = -.17). As in previous studies, EC and IP proved to be the most stable predictors in each regression model. Conversely, ER was not significant in models 1-6, possibly due to the distinctions of participants’ developmental stage. Reasons for only negative beta coefficients regarding FO could be explained by the impact of cultural variables such as collectivism. This research provides the first evidence for unique predictive relations between the elements of self-differentiation and various aspects of well-being among emerging adults in Serbia.

AB - Previous studies on emerging adults have shown that prolonged distress related to the perceived discrepancy between ideal and current self reflects less adaptive emotional regulation and might lead to elevated depressiveness. Moreover, confidence in their ability to mitigate this discrepancy is considered an important mediator. We wondered if differentiation of self (a measure of self’s maturity, i.e., capability to distinguish between intellectual and emotional processes behind personal experiences) underlies this experience of discrepancy. Our research aimed to explore how self-differentiation could predict depressiveness if mediated through discrepancy distress, anxiety, and confidence to change. Participants were 364 emerging adults (18.7% male) aged 18 30 (M = 21.44, SD = 2.36). The level of self-differentiation (SD) was obtained via Differentiation of the Self Inventory (46 items, Likert 1-6), while depression (DEP) and anxiety (ANX) scores came from Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (42 items, Likert 0-3). Participants also completed the Self Discrepancies Scale, estimating (Likert 1-7) how big they find the discrepancies between their ideal and current self, how much distress this causes (DIS) them, and how confident they feel to achieve the aforementioned ideal (CONF). We conducted the Hayes PROCESS analysis. The results showed that variables fit best model 81. Two simple and sequential mediations were confirmed: 1. SD – ANX – DEP (ab = -.07, SE =.01, CI [-.09, -.05]); 2. SD – CONF – DEP (ef = -.01, SE = .00, CI [-.02, -.00]); 3. SD – DIS – ANX – DEP (cgb = -.01, SE = .00, CI [-.02, -.00]); 4. SD – DIS – CONF – DEP (chf = -.01, SE = .00, CI [-.02, -.01]). The only insignificant effect was the one between distress and depression; the whole model explained more than half of depression variance (R2 = 0.57, p < .00). These results show that better self-differentiation predicts lower levels of depressiveness (and vice versa) directly and through different mediation paths. Moreover, distress caused by the distance from the ideal self, also predicted by lower self-differentiation, seems to be a critical point that might lead to depressiveness through anxiety or crisis resolution through confidence in the ability to change. We might also consider therapeutic implications for
addressing depressiveness in emerging adulthood, such as increasing the aforementioned confidence and acknowledging potential depressiveness underlying the observed anxiety.

We might also consider therapeutic implications for
addressing depressiveness in emerging adulthood, such as increasing the aforementioned confidence and acknowledging potential depressiveness underlying the observed anxiety.",

AB - Cultural orientation variables, particularly collectivism, have been shown to be related to COVID-19 pandemic protective behavior, including vaccination. The influence of collectivism might be particularly interesting in the Serbian context, considering the society has been transitioning from socialism to neoliberal capitalism. This study aimed to explore the argumentation young collectivists used in construing their vaccination attitudes, which might inform us on potentially more efficient communication strategies for promoting vaccination. Sixteen purposely sampled self-declared collectivists (aged 20-34, M = 27.71, 25% female) were asked to write about
their thoughts on vaccination and arguments for (not) taking the vaccine. Two-phased analysis was conducted. In the first step, we applied thematic analysis resulting in 12 semantic (5 collectivistic and 7 individualistic) and two latent themes (Janičić et al., in review). The most prominent finding was the frequent use of (horizontal) individualistic argumentation among self-declared collectivists while discussing the COVID-19 vaccination. This combination of collectivistic and individualistic argumentation was further explored through narrative analysis, which confirmed such inconsistencies in their narrations. Moreover, the analysis of emotional tone revealed anger toward those hesitant to vaccinate, as well as the practice of shaming them, which were interpreted as closely related to vertical collectivism but potentially harmful in promoting mass vaccination. On the contrary, understanding those who oppose vaccination was seen as an expression of horizontal individualism, possibly more beneficial for questioning opposing attitudes. Our findings challenge the superiority of collectivistic argumentation in the context of mass vaccination, which might be optimistic for predominantly individualistic, neoliberal societies.

AB - As a developmental concept introduced by Bowen, differentiation of self points to a capability of distinguishing between intellectual and emotional processes behind personal experiences. The dominance of emotions manifests through dysfunction under stress, dependence on others, dissatisfaction with oneself, and fear of commitment; this could result in well-being difficulties, e.g., anxiety and depression. The present research aimed to validate the Differentiation of the Self Inventory (DSI, 46 items, Likert 1-6) in a Serbian sample of university students. The sample consisted of 364 emerging adults aged 18 to 30 (M = 21.44, SD = 2.36, 81.3% female). Items theoretically distribute on four subscales - Emotional reactivity (ER, 11 items), “I” Position” (IP, 11 items), Emotional Cutoff (EC, 12 items), and Fusion with Others (FO, 12 items). Initially, 12 factors were extracted using exploratory factor analysis (Principal components analysis, Promax rotation). Horn’s Parallel Analysis method suggested 6 factors should be kept. However, by examining the Structure and Pattern Matrices, we concluded that the four-factor solution would give the most interpretable results (38.66% of variance explained) and decided to use predefined summary scores. Psychometric properties of each subscale were on a satisfactory level (ER: α = .84; IP: α = .75; EC: α = .82; FO: α = .73). Construct validity was checked via confirmatory factor analysis (χ2 (973) = 2519.60, p < .00, RMSEA = .066, NFI = .619, CFI = .723). After connecting similar origin errors, the resultsindicated that the given model needs further improvement. The predictive validity of the DSI scale was examined by Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-SER, 42 items, Likert 0-3) and a well-being measure from Flourishing Scale (FS, 8 items, Likert 1-7). Predictors were scores on DSI subscales and criteria scores on DASS and FS scales. Results from regression analyses were on a satisfactory level (D: R2 = .41, F(4,355) = 60.60, p < .00; A: R2 = .30, F(4,355)=37.87, p < .00; S: R2 = .35, F(4,355) = 47.55, p < .00; FS: R2 = .37, F(4,355) = 52.23, p < .00), making differentiation of self a good predictor of depression, anxiety, stress, and wellbeing. In conclusion, the number of extracted factors remains debatable, but the instrument shows solid psychometric characteristics. Although some parameters limit the construct validity, the predictive validity and other presented results suggest that this instrument could be used in further research as a comprehensive measure.

AB - The coping styles mature throughout adolescence, representing one of the indicators of positive psychological well-being. Previous research has shown that adolescents use a variety of coping strategies to face both everyday stressors and major life events. The COVID-19 pandemic could be considered a prolonged crisis, which entails a critical initial event, followed by daily hassle after an adaptation period. The Response to Stress Model proved to be a useful framework for understanding the coping process during the pandemic, distinguishing between primary (altering the situation) and secondary (adapting to a situation) engagement/approach coping versus disengagement/avoidance coping. This study aimed to identify adolescents’ adaptive coping strategies, following their cognitive appraisal of experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were asked to write about their experiences during the pandemic and the narratives obtained online were subsequently organised using thematic analysis. The initial sample consisted of 70 adolescents’ narratives. However, only those who unambiguously reported using a coping strategy were selected for the analysis. The final sample included 50 participants (7 male and 43 female) aged 14-25 (M = 20), both high school and university students. Participants recognised various aspects of the pandemic as challenging: fear of infection, difficulties regarding online school, curfew and lockdown, missing experiences, peer isolation, family quarrels, worsening of the pandemic, other peoples’ suffering, and inconsistent media reports. They experienced worry, fear, sadness, frustration, fatigue, helplessness, anxiety, confusion, or distrust, which consequently activated various coping strategies. Thematic analysis was conducted on a total of 132 coded segments, guided by both an inductive and a deductive approach, based on the Response to Stress Model. Coping strategies identified in the narratives were sorted into seven main themes (frequencies refer to the total number of participants who used that coping strategy): I. proactivity (new everyday activities - 17, physical activities - 8, volunteering - 2); II. focusing on the positive (personal perspective - 21, social comparison - 5); III. acceptance & adaptation to the situation (19); IV. hope for the future & quick return to normal (15); V. focusing on here & now (7); VI. stress avoidance (8); and VII. humour (1). In terms of the proposed theoretical model, participants predominantly relied on secondary engagement/approach coping i.e. adapting to a stressor through positive thinking, cognitive restructuring, distractions and acceptance. Since the pandemic situation was seen as uncontrollable, the use of primary engagement coping strategies, especially problem solving, was probably very limited, if not impossible. Only two of the strategies can be considered disengagement coping. On the one hand, stress avoidance shielded adolescents from distress caused by inconsistent and overwhelming media reports, while hope for the future could occasionally be characterised as wishful thinking, expecting everything to work itself out. To conclude, the COVID-19 pandemic imposed specific challenges for adolescents, which were mainly managed by ‘changing the perspective’ through secondary engagement coping strategies. An important source of adolescents’ resilience is their psycho-physical vitality, allowing them a quick and flexible adoption of coping strategies even in the face of a global crisis.

AB - This research aimed to explore why academically motivated adolescents engage in certain hobbies and what they mean to them. The empirical findings of a broader study about the everyday life of adolescents in Serbia showed a positive connection between adolescents'
hobby engagement and academic achievements and motivation. Therefore, the sample of this
research consisted of selected academically-oriented secondary school students, participants
of the extracurricular educational program in Petnica Science Center. A Focus group was
conducted with a whole psychology program group (12 female, 2 male; average age 17) in
February 2020. The semi-structured discussion about hobbies was encouraged and the
answers were categorized into 222 codes in consensus of two researchers. The thematic
analysis revealed six major themes concerning hobbies: 1. Personal growth, 2. Professional
development, 3. Factors supporting engagement, 4. Dedicated time, 5. Managing resources,
6. Promoting products. The benefits of the hobbies were recognized in emotional regulation,
fun, health, improving memory and concentration, identity and skills development. For some,
hobbies were a source of early incomes and preparation for future profession. Intrinsic
motivation, creativity, facultative nature of hobbies, and talent were recognized as the most
important factors of engagement and perseverance in these activities. Furthermore, most
participants had started practicing hobbies in childhood, and according to their experiences, it
was more important what hobby meant to them than how often or regularly they practiced it.
Participants recognized that required resources for practicing hobbies depend on the type of
the activity and could be managed or compensated in accordance with motivation. Finally,
social media and public appearances were predominantly used for product promotion,
exchange of ideas, and feedback. The most important outcome of group discussion was the
co-construction of the definition of hobbies as creative, self-structured, enjoyable, productive
activity that requires interest and continuous effort. The aforementioned definition was
supported by the theoretically framed conception of a hobby. This focus group contributed to
a better understanding of the role of hobbies in everyday lives and positive development of
academically motivated adolescents.

Am I Good Enough? The Mediated Effects of Distance from the Ideal Self on the Well-Being of Emerging Adults

AB - Previous research has shown that depressiveness in emerging adulthood represents one of the
outcomes of distress regarding the perception of long distance from the ideal self, reflecting
poorly on psychological well-being. But what if the stress response could be mediated by
people’s confidence in their ability to control the distance? This work aimed to examine the
nature of the relationship between mentioned distress, confidence to change, depressive
symptoms, and psychological well-being. The sample consisted of 364 emerging adults (81.3% female), aged 18-30 (M = 21.44, SD = 2.36). All participants were students, mostly at the undergraduate level (80%). They completed Self-Discrepancies Scale, listing features of four “self-guides”: desired & undesired self, ought & un-ought self (<un>desired for them by the significant others). Participants estimated the extent to which they possess the features and answered (Likert, 1-7) how big they find the discrepancies between desired self-guides (ideal self) and their current self, how much distress this causes (DIS), and how confident they feel to reach the ideal (CONF). The depression score (DEP) was singled out from the 42-item Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (Likert, 1-4). Flourishing Scale (Likert, 1-7), an 8-item summary operationalized through relationships, self-esteem, life-purpose, and optimism was used for measuring well-being (WB). The main analysis was conducted with Hayes PROCESS macro, Model 6. The results showed three significant indirect effects, two simple and one sequential mediation: 1. DIS – CONF – WB (ae = -.06, SE = .01, CI [-.09, -.03]); 2. DIS – DEP – WB (dc = -.10, SE = .02, CI [-.13, -.05]); 3. DIS – CONF – DEP – WB (abc = - .04, SE = .01, CI [-.07, -.02]). No direct, only mediated effects of distress on well-being were found. Therefore, higher distress regarding perceived discrepancies between ideal and current self only affected psychological well-being through lower self-confidence to change this proportion, higher depression levels, and both. Suggested model explained almost half of the well-being variance (R²= 0.49, p = .000). The higher stress levels could be interpreted as the lower satisfaction with the current self, leading to depressiveness, which is often mediated via feelings of helplessness. Ultimately, this could cause dissatisfaction on the broader well-being level and create a loop, leading recurrently to wider discrepancies, more profound distress, and depression.

Depression, Anxiety, and Stress among Music Students in Serbia

AB - Previous research reported higher levels of depression and anxiety for music students (Wristen,
2013). Psychological distress was more prevalent among musicians than in the workforce, with
soloists reporting the highest levels (Vaag et al., 2016). Studies are slim on the symptoms of
depression, anxiety, and stress, related to playing specific instruments. One paper claims that
piano playing reduces stress more than a few other artistic activities (Toyoshima et al., 2011). This work aimed to compare certain groups based on their depression, anxiety, and stress levels.
The differences were analyzed between (1) music and other faculties’ students; (2) theoretically
and practically oriented musicians; (3) piano, strings, and wind instruments players selected
from the practitioners’ group. The initial sample consisted of 364 students (81.3% female) aged 18-30, of which 120 were studying music. 68.3% of them were instrumentalists, and some were selected for betweengroup analysis: 29 piano, 18 string, and 15 wind instruments (including solo singers) players. The DASS-SER (Likert, 1-4) scale was used for depression, anxiety, and stress measures. Oneway ANOVA was used, with Bonferroni post-hoc test. The levels of depression (M = 1.76, SD = .74), anxiety (M = 1.77, SD = .68), and stress (M = 2.29, SD = .69) among musicians were clinically insignificant. Although music students had slightly higher scores, no differences from other students were found. Analysis showed that practitioners experienced lower amounts of anxiety (F(1) = 5.18, p = .025) and depression (F(1) = 4.09, p = .045) than theorists. Significant differences between three groups of instrumentalists were found for each depression (F(2) = 6.59, p = .003), anxiety (F(2) = 4.24, p = .019), and stress (F(2) = 6.69, p = .002). Post-hoc test showed that string-players score higher on depression (p = .003), anxiety (p = .017), and stress (p = .003) than pianists, and higher on depression (p = .030) than wind instrumentalists. Following previous research, this study suggests that music students experience no more depression, anxiety, or stress than other faculties’ students. The result that theoretically oriented musicians seem more anxious and depressed than instrumentalists has no theoretical support so far. Underpinned by existing theory to some extent, piano players have slightly better scores on these variables. Nevertheless, this study has not accounted for situational variables, such as the pandemic and rapports with professors. Since there are no well-founded theoretical assumptions, these variables probably explain the results. Therefore, the peculiarities of piano players’ more positive scores, more melancholic tendencies of string instrumentalists and difficulties experienced by theoretically oriented musicians need further exploration and a larger sample.

AB - This work focused on the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on youth’s significant relationships. It was a part of a broader qualitative study of young people’s narratives (administered online) about their experiences during the first year of the pandemic. The coding scheme was developed on the initial sample of 70 narratives, while 41 of those narratives containing codes about relationships (family, friends, romantic partners, community) were chosen for thematic analysis. Seven major themes were extracted: 1. Quality time with family; 2. Tensions between household members; 3. Missing close friends; 4. Missing social life; 5. Re-evaluating the role of others; 6. Benefits of romantic relations; 7. Connecting with the community. Participants noticed that their relationships with family members, peers, romantic partners and communities were different. Some of these changes were seen as positive (more time together, closeness, sense of belonging and shared experiences), while others were regarded as unfavorable or detrimental (physical and emotional distancing from peers, missing out). The pandemic significantly affected young peoples’ quality of contact with others. The results imply that relational functioning should be assessed during a time of crisis, when it could be even more important than in regular circumstances, as a resource or an additional challenge.

AB - Although emerging adults are generally more physically resilient to the severe effects of COVID-19, they might be vulnerable to the psychological stressors brought about by the crisis. Using semi-structured interviews, this qualitative research aimed to explore the experiences, well-being, coping strategies and future expectations of 15 emerging adults in Serbia during the state of emergency caused by the global pandemic. As a result of thematic analysis, six main themes emerged, focusing on: 1) disruptions in everyday life and functioning; 2) the pandemic as a health crisis; 3) public reaction to the pandemic as a source of tension and frustration; 4) crisis as an opportunity; 5) coping strategies; 6) imagining the post-pandemic future. The present study points to the resilience and resourcefulness of emerging adults in the local context and emphasizes the heterogeneity of this age group and the vulnerability sources of those who might need additional support.

AB - How adolescents spend their leisure time has proven to be important for their well-being. The aim of this work was to determine if there are connections between certain patterns of leisure time behaviors and specific aspects of well-being. The sample included 1358 secondary school students. Seven leisure time patterns were extracted and latent variables interpreted as an orientation towards Pop Culture, Culture/Art/Music, Films/TV-Shows/Internet, Science/ Politics, Information Technologies, Going Out, and Sports. Well-being scales include the following five aspects: Engagement (E), Perseverance (P), Optimism (O), Connectedness (C), and Happiness (H). Although small, significant positive correlations were found between Pop Culture and P, O, C, H; b) Culture/Art/Music and E; c) Films/TV-Shows/Internet and E; d) Science/Politics and P, O; e) IT and E, P; f) Going Out and O, C, H; g) Sports and E, P, O, H. Pop Culture, Going Out, and Sports contributed most to the total well-being variance and might be proven overall beneficial. Orientations towards science, politics, and IT are considered more serious activities that require perseverance over time. Only for perusing Culture/Art/Music negative correlations were found, indicating lower degrees of connectedness and happiness. In conclusion, certain leisure time behavior patterns are related to different aspects of adolescents’ well-being.

AB - The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant disruptions in young people’s everyday functioning. One of the most detrimental effects on their life satisfaction and wellbeing has been attributed to the sudden and unexpected closure of academic institutions. In previous research, the shift to home-based e-learning has been linked to dissatisfaction with the educational process, the inability to spend time with peers, and the occurrence of stressrelated symptoms and learning difficulties. This study explores the students’ perspectives on online learning in Serbia during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on their well-being. The qualitative research methodology was applied in the form of in-depth semi-structured interviews. The sample included 15 participants (6 male), both university and final-year high-school students, aged 18-26. Their answers were transcribed and thematically analyzed, generating five central themes: 1) inadequate organization of the education process, 2) lack of resources, 3) difficulties with self organization, 4) loss of live contact with peers, and 5) uncertainties regarding the continuation of the studies. All students recognized online learning as a serious challenge, resulting in elevated stress levels. They viewed the education process as inadequately adapted to the new circumstances, while practical skills instruction (e.g., art, maths) arose as a particular issue. Moreover, some participants faced additional difficulties, such as the lack of technical means (e.g., internet connection) or personal space for studying. Due to the lack of information from academic institutions and the loss of an external structure, students found learning more difficult, often dealing with confusion, low motivation, poor focus, and procrastination. Home-based education led to dissatisfaction with social life, which was limited to online contacts. Finally, the uncertainties regarding the future organization of their studies increased anxiety levels, recurrently enhancing the mentioned challenges. The findings suggest that both high-school and university students included in this study perceived online learning during the first wave of the pandemic as stressful and insufficiently oriented towards their needs, thus negatively affecting their wellbeing. Subsequently, several practical guidelines for the organization of online learning are offered, which could prove beneficial for academic institutions and students alike.

Naša kvalitativna studija je omogućila longitudinalno ispitivanje i praćenje promena u svakodnevnom iskustvu i funkcionisanju, strategijama prevladavanja teškoća i doživljaju kvaliteta života tokom trajanja pandemije.

AB - This study aims to provide an overview of adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction and its
relation to identified behavioural patterns. The sample consisted of 1358 Serbian secondary
school students, 1st and 3rd grade. Within the broader questionnaire about adolescents' everyday life, participants answered about the level of satisfaction with spending their leisure time
(scale 1-5), their preferable activities, and what they need to be more satisfied. Results show
that every second adolescent is mostly satisfied. Significant effects were found for gender (t
(1268) = 5,51, p < .00) and age (t (1342) = 2.81, p <.01), in favour of boys and first graders.
Furthermore, adolescents who attend 3-year vocational schools (F (2, 1341) = 7.87, p < .00)
are significantly more satisfied than those in 4-year vocational and grammar schools. Those
with the lowest SES are less satisfied than those from other SES categories (F (5, 1331) =
4.59, p < .00). About half of adolescents (53%) estimate they need additional free time to be
more satisfied. They mostly spend their leisure time using mobile phones (70%) and
socializing (63%). Seven behavioural patterns (Information Technologies (IT), Pop Culture,
Culture/Art/Music, Films/TV-Shows/Internet, Science/Politics, Going Out, and Sports) were
identified (PAF, Varimax) and saved as factor scores (Cronbach’s Alpha > .70). Small but
significant correlations were found between leisure time satisfaction and Culture/Art/Music (r
= .10, p < .00), Science/Politics (r = .07, p < .01), Going Out (r = .11, p < .00) and Sports (r =
.14, p < .00). Negative correlations only concern orientations towards IT (r = -.12, p < .01)
and Films/TV-Shows/Internet (r = -.08, p < .00). In summary, younger and 3-year vocational
male students, with higher SES display greater leisure time satisfaction. Fulfilment resulting
from orientation towards culture, art, music, science, and politics seems connected to interests
for acquiring knowledge and information. Moreover, Going Out and Sports are pleasant,
socially engaging activities. Negative correlations with Films/TV-Shows/Internet could be
explained by dissatisfaction from these activities’ passiveness and solitary nature. Finally,
negative correlations between satisfaction and IT pattern might appear due to skill-mastering
(even professional) activity type, which surpasses the leisure time. These conclusions refer to
the need for further research of leisure time satisfaction and behavioural patterns.

abstract = "This study aims to provide an overview of adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction and its
relation to identified behavioural patterns.
These conclusions refer to
the need for further research of leisure time satisfaction and behavioural patterns.",

AB - Previous findings from a broader study about adolescents’ leisure activities in Serbia show that few adolescents pursue hobbies, while online social networks (OSNs) usage is widespread. Results also suggest that two types of OSNs could be distinguished: (1) oriented towards personal communication and exchange (e-mail, Viber, WhatsApp, Skype, & Snapchat); (2) reflects presence in the public domain, and is used to provoke a reaction (YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook).
This work aimed to determine if there are connections between certain hobbies (8 distinguished) and mentioned OSNs. On 17 items selected in the applied questionnaire, adolescents
estimated how often they engage in specific hobbies and how active they are on mentioned OSNs. Results indicate that some hobbies do not require activity on OSNs at all, while some are
connected to particular (types of) OSNs. Different types of OSNs, according to their capacity for personal exchange and public exposure and reaction, could be upholding for practicing different hobbies, especially graphic design and computerrelated activities. OSNs might also represent a supportive tool in practicing hobbies, concerning the nature of the specific hobbyrelated activity and purpose, mostly because hobbies and OSN activities are chosen following adolescents’ interests, abilities, knowledge, and resources.

AB - The main aim of this work was to review methodological difficulties that arise while designing and
administrating music conservation-type tasks, thus contribute to the expansion and redefinition of theoretical constructs. Another aim was to present the results of the pilot study, in order to extract potential means for problems-solving and to point out to the remaining difficulties. Music conservation represents the ability to perceive unchanged attributes of the music as same, despite the change in another attribute. The analogy of cognitive and music conservation and development remains questionable. Results have shown that the efficiency of music conservation
increases with age, and tonal models conserve before rhythmic. Numerous critics followed, which could be arranged into three categories: 1. Before (task selection, stimuli, sample); 2. During (test procedure, additional material) and 3. After (data analysis, interpretation) data collection. Within the mentioned pilot study following methodological problems were considered: duration, sole auditory domain, terminology adjustment to the age, aspects of music that can be compared with Piaget’s (melody, rhythm, meter), and unfamiliarity with the stimuli. Contradictory results were obtained, and the assumption is that they were caused by methodological difficulties. Based on what was said above, guidelines for improvement were proposed. Recently there has been no significant research in this field. Therefore, mentioned critiques should be considered and methodologically more correct tasks designed. The significance of this research is reflected in the contribution to the validation of conservation-type tasks, and a better understanding of musical development.

AB - This research was a part of a broader study that investigated adolescents’ leisure activities in the context of positive youth development. Our intention was to explore how well-being is
connected with hobbies in adolescence. Hence, the aim was to determine if there are correlations between certain creative activities, operationalized through hobbies (blog writing,
creative writing, drawing/painting, graphic design, music, jewelry making, computer related and artistic photography), and five aspects of well-being (Engagement, Perseverance,
Optimism, Connectedness and Happiness). Higher scores on Engagement, Perseverance and Connectedness for adolescents who are engaged in hobbies are expected, concerning hobbies
as individual and intrinsically motivated activities. Data show that Engagement is the most dominant aspect of well-being among adolescents who practice investigated hobbies.
Happiness is the only aspect with exclusively negative connections, while Optimism has both positive and negative values. Drawing distinguishes as the sole hobby with only
negative aspects of well-being. Results point to the importance of further investigation of well-being aspects in positive development of adolescents and to the different well-being experiences of those who practice various hobbies.

abstract = "This research was a part of a broader study that investigated adolescents’ leisure activities in the context of positive youth development.

AB - In this research adolescents’ leisure activities were investigated in the context of positive
youth development. The sample included 1358 secondary school students, first and third
grade (56% girls). This work concerns activity on different social networks, precisely
following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, You Tube, Viber, WhatsApp, Skype, and
Snapchat. Among other questions in applied questionnaire about leisure activities, students
estimated how active they are on mentioned networks (scale 1-6) and answered about their
well-being on the EPOCH scale (scale 1-5). The EPOCH scale includes 20 items, 4 for each
of the following aspects: Engagement, Perseverance, Optimism, Connectedness and
Happiness. The aim of this work is to investigate if there are correlations between the activity
of adolescents on certain social networks and 5 aspects of well-being. The results show that
adolescents who are more active on social networks have higher scores on well-being in
general (r=.170, p<.01) while Instagram, Viber and WhatsApp explain most of the variance.
Higher activity on social networks is also positively connected to all particular aspects of
well-being separately. Certain highest correlations, among others, between activity on specific
networks and well-being aspects are established (p<.01, for all): a) Facebook and:
Perseverance (r=.072), Happiness (r=.098); b) Instagram and: Optimism (r=.118),
Connectedness (r=.246), Happiness (r=.176); c) Twitter and: Engagement (r=.080); d) You
Tube and: Engagement (r=.076), e) Viber and: Perseverance (r=.124), Connectedness
(r=.127), Happiness (r=.131); f) WhatsApp and: Perseverance (r=.074), Optimism(r=.074),
Connectedness (r=.149), Happiness (r=.110); g) Skype and: Engagement (r=.079); h)
Snapchat and: Connectedness (r=.155), Happiness (r=.082). Higher activity on social
networks is positively connected to well-being of adolescents. Instagram, Viber and
WhatsApp are the most significant contributors, and with Snapchat they are connected with
optimism, hopefulness, and life and relationships satisfaction. On the other side, Twitter, You
Tube, and Skype require higher engagement and focus on what one is doing. Hence, we can
further consider two types of social networks, according to their developmental potential,
predominantly towards communication or interest in life activities and tasks. For further
research, Messenger and Facebook, as well as Direct Messages and Instagram, that include
both mentioned types, should be separated.
