Abstract
The work analyzes the emergence and early development of the concept of continual education of adults in ancient Greece. It sketches the development of this concept in philosophical schools of the pre-Socratic period, and draws special attention to the thought of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle on the goals, contents and forms of continual education. It also dwells on the influence of the subsequent schools of philosophy on this issue.
