dc.description.abstract | Half a century after the death of Dorde Andrejevic Kun (1904-1964) was the occasion to once again examine his life and work, this time in a map of graphics For Freedom (1939), which was created after the artist's return from Spain where he stayed as a volunteer of International Brigades in 1937 and 1938. The map has about twenty sheets of 31.5 x 24.5 cm as follows: Title page (For freedom / Part I / 12 woodcuts / by D. Andrejevic Kun), a page with a quote by R. Alberti "To life, against death", a foreword by O. Bihalji-Merin (from 1946 which originally accompanied the second and all subsequent editions), a page with a list of the names of individual prints (1. Falangists with the help of German/ and Italian fascists who oppress/ freedom-loving Spanish people,/ 2. shoot,/ 3. overthrown and kill/ 4. weak children,/ 5. helpless mothers and wives./ 6. Do not stop at the most heinous atrocities./ 7. Spanish people gather/ to fight, to defend freedom/ 8. storming the fascist fortifications,/ 9. fighting on the barricades./ 10. With grenades and rifle in their hands/ 11. destroying the last fascist/ strongholds in the cities./ 12. Farewell to soldiers on the front.). In addition to the memorial character of the map intended on this occasion, this may also be an opportunity to consider the work itself and its subsequent analyses, i.e. the way in which social reality is intertwined with them, as well as the significance and meaning of that work in the light of changes of the dominant ideological standpoint and subsequent interpretations characteristic of partially or completely altered political and cultural frameworks. | en |
