Herbert Marcuse is one of the most important representatives of the idea of the unity of esthetic and erotic phenomenon as a social and emancipatory value. The author of this paper understands that idea as a challenge for his research. The author's radical approach to the idea of the unity of erotic and esthetic qualities prompts him to develop an immanent critique of that idea related to the concept of derealization. He points to an autonomous purpose and impracticality of the Eros as a reason why this power may not be an agent of changes in social reality.
