The aim of the PhD dissertation was to demonstrate the importance of Elizabeth Szilágyi’s personality (1410 - 1483) on political, economic, spiritual and cultural scene in the context of the Serbo-Hungarian relations throughout history. By comparison of existing sources and literature, the author proved that neither Hungarian, nor Serbian historiography examined the importance of Elizabeth Szilágyi in understanding these relations. The study was conducted at the National Archives of Hungary in Budapest, in the Archive of the SASA, in the Archivio di Stato, Venice, and in other archives and libraries throughout Hungary, Serbia and Italy. An extensive study of the sources and historiography demonstrates the importance of Elizabeth Szilágyi in connecting the two nations throughout history. The research led to the conclusion that Elizabeth Szilágyi was very significant, although so far neglected figure at the time of the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The dissertation can contribute to the further study of the Serbo-Hungarian relations, especially researched from the view of the importance of female historical figuresen
