Од руина до крунидбене цркве: манастир Жича у 19. веку

Abstract

Ауторка у књизи приказује живот, обнову и украшавање једног од најзначајнијих српских манастира током 19. века, његову перцепцију у културној јавности Србије, место у развоју идеје о заштити споменика прошлости, као и улогу у владарској иделогији српских нововековних владара. Заснована на обимној литератури, периодици из 19. и с почетка 20. века, као и теренским и архивским истраживањима монографија настоји да предметом свог истраживања употпуни постојећу научну празнину у прошлости манастира Жиче и да допринос познавању укупне културне историје Србије 19. века. Подељена је на три веће, хронолошки конципиране целине са одговарајућим подпоглављима: Манастир Жича у првој половини 19. века, Обнова Жиче средином 19 века и Жича у другој половини 19. века. У првом поглављу представљена је историја манастира у Првом српском устанку, затим, разодбље од Другог српског устанка до обнове средином 19. века, те истраживања Жиче у првој половини 19. века. Средишње поглавље књиге разматра све аспекте обнове манастира средином 19. века, од грађевинских радова на обнови цркве Св. Спаса, преко опремања ентеријера, улогом владике Јоаникија „као обновитеља Жиче“, те оновременим критикама поводом обнове манастира. У трећем поглављу књиге представљени су истраживачи и истраживања Жиче у седмој и осмој деценији 19. века, место Жиче у владарској идеологији и државним и националним програмима до Првог светског рата.

The Žiča Monastery as the endowment of King Stephen the First-Crowned, was raised in the period 1206-1221 in the spacious valley of the river Ibar, open towards the important Trans-Balkan roads of the time. The Monastery was chosen to be the centre of the Archiepiscopacy and the place of Sefbian rulers’ crowning and high priests’ enthronement. It was in Žiča that the most precious Serbian relics had been kept from its beginning: a small piece of the Christian cross, the riza and the belt of the Mother of God, John the Bapist’s right arm with a part of his head, the remains of the apostles and the martyrs. Its reputation of the archiepiscopal church was aditionally enhanced by the first Serbian Archbishop, Sava Nemanjić, who had carried over the remains of his brother Stephen the First-Crowned from the Studenica Monastery around 1230, announcing him a saint. Out of the whole monastery estate built in the medieval age, up to now the great Church of the Holy Salvation (the Ascension) and a smaller Church of St. Peter and Paul have been preserved. In its time, it was surrounded by the fortification walls erected on the south, west and north side, while there weren’t any on the east side, due to the terrain’s sudden fall. Along with the catholicon and the small church, inside these walls there were other objects as well – a dining room, monastic cells, the Archbishop’s dwelling place and most probably the ktetor’s palace. Apart from the Church of the Holy Salvation and the smaller Church of St. Peter and Paul, the remaining buildings that the current monasteric complex had been comprised of, were built in the modern age and belonged to the period of the Monastery’s rennovation between two World Wars and during the second half of the 20th century.
