The project ARCHAEOWILD, funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, investigates the Holocene history of human-wildlife interactions within one of European biodiversity hotspots, the Central Balkans. By incorporating data of archaeozoology and archaeobotany, aDNA and stable isotopes, ancient texts, and iconography, the project will give a diachronic insight into wildlife biogeography, large mammals extinction dynamics, anthropogenic pressure on the environment, and symbolic aspects of HWI in the region. Through the medium of a short movie, project members will present a research framework of the project with the emphasis on its impacts relevant to contemporary biodiversity issues.
