| sr |
dc.description.abstract | This research pays attention to the structure and functioning of the Aleksinac Quarantine in the period from 1839 to 1858. The quarantine in Aleksinac had the largest number of employees, because it was the largest and busiest quarantine in the Principality of Serbia. All quarantine officers were subordinate to the director. The duty of quarantine director was performed for the longest time by the doctor Vasilije Teodorović (1842–1859), who was a native of Trieste. The main duty of the director was to monitor the state of health in the Ottoman Empire, thus the quarantine period was increased or decreased accordingly. A large number of people, who went or just passed through Serbia, went through quarantine. Sanitary regulations were not the same for everyone. Significant personalities had certain privileges. But not only people, goods also passed through the quarantine, official letters and shipments from the muhafiz of Belgrade, the Sublime Porte, the Serbian government, the Serbian diplomatic agent in Constantinople, the Austrian government and the Austrian ambassador in Constantinople. | sr |
